What other 28mm Saxon companies are compatible with Gripping Beast so that they can either be mixed in with the same Units, or used as stand alone command figures…? Thanks Darren |

Saxon Miniatures, now part of Warlord Games, are the obvious choice as they have the same sculptor. I've got GB, Saxon, Casting Room, MSC (now part of minifigs) and Crusader in my Saxon army. They all work fine together. |

Much appreciated. I'll look at each of them. Darren |

Gripping Beast has a few different sculptors with differing styles. So when you are saying GB they can vary considerably themselves. Patten and Soapy are 2 main sculptors. Saxon Miniatures, now owned by Warlord, are Patten sculpts. I do not think they have re-released the Anglo-Danes/Saxons yet since the acquisition so you may have to be patient there. In the meantime Footsore Miniatures has some Anglo-Saxons that look pretty good together. They tend to be a touch bulkier than Patten sculpts but less so than the Soapy sculpts from GB. |

The bulk of the minis I am planning on using the Gripping Beast plastics – with some special metals thrown in. Darren |

I've got both metal and plastic GB and cannot tell the difference once painted. |

Footsore, and GB sculpts by Soapy, are very similar in style/bulk. |

If GB Plastics then I'd go with the Patten sculpts from GB (metal) and Warlord (previously Saxon Miniatures). Footsore will fit in as well. As I said they are in between Patten and Soapy bulk wise so can pair up with either style you wish to go for. When push comes to shove they all mix. There may also be some options for you with Crusader and Artizan. I like the Crusader Early Saxon/Franks. These are more bulky and like Footsore are somewhat between Patten and Soapy leaning toward bulkier. I'm not familiar with Foundry, I don't own any of them. You can also try Drabant Miniatures. They have an intriguing line of Dark Age stuff we never hear or see much about. link There are also the resin ones from Russia. Someone help me here please. |

Here you go, loads of comparison photos of Gripping Beast with other manufacturers' figures… link There are also some other comparison photos of various Dark Ages figures here…
link I have some Drabant figures that I've not photographed yet. They are very nice and would appear to match well with most other 28mm stuff.

Oh, I forgot! There is also a list here of who makes what ranges of 28mm Dark Ages figures. It needs an update but is still mostly accurate… link The 'Russian' resin figures are, I believe, by a Ukrainian company called V&V Miniatures…

Don't forget Black Tree Designs. Mixes very well with Patten Gripping Beast and Footsore. |
