I looked at both rules and am interested in how quick they are. Given, let's say, the battle of Dogger Bank with 4 to 6 people, how long will the scenario take to play?

Please refrain from which rules are ‘better' and why. I am more interested in speed of play.

I've never heard of Grandfleets 3? Any chance you mean General Quarters 3? Both are about the same level of complexity and both play about the same pace.

I have played Naval Thunder and I would rate it as between 2.5 and 4 hours for Dogger Bank.

Look at "Quickfire" at the War Times Journal wtj.com/games/quickfire

Thanks for the input but I am looking at these two rules only, with questions limited to time of play. WTJ is for pre-dread anyway.

I think GF3 would play significantly faster…maybe a couple hours or less for a Dogger Bank game if using capital ships only. Combat has been streamlined quite a bit and is pretty lethal. Too much so, for my tastes.

Naval Thunder plays more like GF2 (which I prefer to both of these). It has more detail (moderate level), but it's going to play slower. McKinstry's time estimate for NT looks reasonably accurate.

Thanks. I would definitely want to include all the ships. Eliminating the light forces, is definitely not an option. Anything less is a shoot em up game with no basis in history or era tactics.

I have both NT and GF3 and would agree that GF3 plays faster and is more lethal.
