Fuel Reserve. Page 105 of 6th edition.
Armored Fuel Barrels (or storage tanks) can prove handy shelter-right up until the point they go BOOM!

If a model is in cover behind a fuel reserve, it has a 5+ cover save. However, each time a model successfully makes this cover save, immediately roll a D6. On a roll of 1, the barrel (or tank) explodes. etc.

I'll post some (very general) parameters tomorrow or Weds.

In general, we're going to make something like the old Forgeworld Fuel Dump.
However, it is not limited to the square box. (From Dakka Dakka)

Sounding fun.

Before and After?

The old hex GW paint pots made good sci fi drums.

TheGaffer23 Oct 2017 6:59 p.m. PST

Good idea. I think I might have some of those old pots lying around too.

Lay out the components you plan to use before starting and put a few updates in this thread. Bonus for using a CD-it need not be intact. Another bonus for incorporating a filling station sign, consistent with one of your armies.

I've been meaning to make one of these for a while. (Like, about two years.)

Here are some components that would work. If you decide to go with a shallow gang box and need to pick one up at the local Home Depot, Lowe's or other store, pick up a round one two. We'll use it for an upcoming project. (I already have one.)

We've announced the contest a couple of days earlier to give folks a chance to think of their approach and gather materials. Construction can start anytime. We'll have two weekends to finish, so completed projects should be posted by Sunday evening, November 5. Otherwise Parameters are very loose. Winner gets bragging rights and a new piece of terrain.

1. Should be "about" 6" x 6".
2. Bonus points for using a shallow electrical box and CD.
3. Bonus for using signage. (any size, shape and subject.)
4. Bonus for simultaneously finishing the figure(s) on your painting bench you've been meaning to get to.

Otherwise do whatever you like. Here is some inspiration:

Here's another simple one.

Hmm. ..capacitors, soda co2 canisters.

I'm thinking. I'm thinking.

OK.

I was not sure what the box was about, but I had this similar bucket, so made a store shed. The fuels in the drums on top, probably has many more inside as well. They are 2 lids with a roll of thin card between. Effective.

Used a cd, bucket, mdf base, some milk carton caps. Also ended up using a bit of sprue, lots of pop sticks, thin card, cd bits, some strip of normal and straight staples and sand and kitty litter (fresh).

Paintings up next.

Still waiting for our competition to rock up. Yellow bellies.

Looks good H-man. I hadn't thought of a storage shed approach. The square box is the big mobile fuel tank that got dropped off the back of a truck. Here's my interpretation. I'll start priming the pieces individually this morning.

And a very clever use of the CD. I'm thinking Quonset huts…

Busy weekend.
Hope to get it flocked tonight and finished tomorrow.

TheGaffer24 Nov 2017 4:44 p.m. PST

Well,
the winner is a dark horse who got his project done on time! It's been languishing in my inbox for the past few weeks. I got side tracked on another gaming project and did not do a bit here and there as I usually do.

So here is dave's (HAL's buddy) entry.

and another view.

Well Done!

Finished this (and a number of other pieces) a while back. So here is my finished product. Not sure if the H-Man ever got his complete. Let's post another challenge. Check out our narrative campaign at the Corvus Cluster. thecorvuscluster.com
