Thinking about doing a Necron project, in part because I might be able to use some things with my 15mm mechanoid army and in part because I might give 8th a try. If I'm going to get some Necrons it would seem reasonable to be able to put together an army capable of being used for an evenings casual play, but I haven't played 40K in a very looong time and have no idea what such an army would even look like! So very roughly what would I be looking for in terms of numbers? I'm aware that this is a bit of daft question, but I'm not springing for a copy of the current codex just for planning a potential project!

You could start with this set: link

It gives you a little bit of everything to start. You can add to it if/when you decide what you want to do.

You might also check E-Bay, usually some good deals to be had there.

Do you have a strict budget or money to burn?

Maxing on upgrades may be a cheap way of spending points.

You could also use non GW models if they are cheaper and if your opponents are ok with it.

Again if money's tight you could build everything from just the basic warriors. If it works out cheaper? I remember one of the chaps, Nigel Stillman? Making a mordheim war band from just plastics back in the day. It could be a cool project, especially if it saves money.

Or you may have a gold card. Then this may be of no use.

Neal Smith has the best suggestion. The Start Collecting sets are a great value and with the addition of another box of Necron warriors you would have a pretty solid starting force.

The Start Collecting set basically give you the Overlord for free.

Cheers, I don't have a gold card, So a couple of dozen warriors off ebay it will be! And what ever other odds and ends I can scrape together, as the budget is thin.

I'm doing a Necron Force in Epic/6mm scale … so I've got lots & lots & lots ! evil grin

Though a tad small.

Unless you glued them together like sg1 replicators.

LOL ! thumbs up They are just one of my many Epic/6mm Sci-fi Forces …

P.S. I loved the SG series !

Dreading what the new stargate movies may become, after how different sgu was.

Yes SG1 is tops. I have met a few actors all very nice also.

Didn't know they were making a new SG movie ?

And I was quite fond of Amanda Tapping/Sam Carter ! evil grin

Just looked it up. It has been shelved. Apparently things did not line up creatively. Pity.

Carter/Tapping was a delight. Though I have not met her. The Show had its share of nice ladies (Tokra, female jaffa, aliens of the week), both in looks and ability. I'm sure female viewers appreciated the likes of Chris Judge and Cliff Simon, both approtchable (easy to talk to) and entertaining in person. I should mention Corrin Nemic as also fun to see if you get the chance.

Too bad … but I would have been disappointed if it was a bad movie … I would love to meet Amanda or any of the cast for that matter ! But she'd be my first choice !
