The Red Baron flew in different aircraft, with different paint schemes. And you may game in more than one scale. So… how many Red Barons do you own? (Must be painted to count.)

When I did Great War aeroplanes in 1/72, one of my triplanes was of course his. I had no Albatri or other planes of his.

Exactly one (Wings of Glory, and bright red triplane)

I recently reviewed one book – TMP link – and apparently the Red Baron would have his plane painted red (or not) depending on which side of the lines they were fighting. Also, sometimes the national markings were left off; and the style of the German cross changed (his final plane had the cross repainted).

I have an Albatros D.II which is modeled on the description of one of his early planes. He tried various camouflage schemes, then gave up and went the opposite to garish, choosing red. My D.II has a mottled fuselage and dark green wings streaked brown. I also have a DR.I with the cowl and top wing painted red, which I believe is a verified "red" scheme of the Baron's triplane (this model was painted by a friend who doesn't game air war anymore and I inherited it).

In 1:72 scale models…Eindecker E.III, Albatros D.II, D.III, and D.V., and of course the Fokker Dr.I Dreidecker…so five of them bad boys. All with their unique paint schemes.

One. The obligatory DR I. But though scarlet it doesn't particularly represent von Richthofen's aircraft, and is currently being used by my wife's pet, Lt von Dortmundt, Order of the Black Eagle.

I have in my 1/144 Wings of War/Glory collection, 7 different Red Baron aircraft as original and repaints:
Roland CII,
Albatros DII Nr.491/16, 1st Victory bare wood fuselage
Albatros DII Nr.491/16, 15th Victory red fuselage, painted over markings
Albatros DIII Nr.2253/17 Red fuselage camoflauge upper wings
Albatros DV Nr.4693/17, 62nd Victory
Fokker Dr.1 477/17, 73rd Victory
Fokker Dr.1 425/17 All red death machine!

None, I also don´t have any other aces´ aircraft, so no slight against the Baron personally.

I have a pair of triplanes and numerous Albatross fighters, but none as the Baron.

Old Wolfman23 Oct 2017 7:22 a.m. PST

Got his red DR-1,his Albatros D-III in 1/72(Aerodrome). And a few more in 1/144(WOG).

1 – the classic, in 1/285. Too many other cool paint schemes for other guys to give him multiple options right now.

Old Contemptibles23 Oct 2017 11:36 a.m. PST

I loving going to Red Barons. They have the best burgers in town.

At least four! Maybe five.

Note to Ye Ed: German aviation insignia changed in 1918, from the Maltese Cross to a simpler cross, hence the varying style of crosses painted on planes at different periods (not only the Red Baron's).

None. My WW1 German biplanes are in fictional colour schemes using Orange and White as a theme. I play in 1/300th so its more to be able to identify individual aircraft than anything else. I may have a Orange Ritter somewhere in the collection.
