So while the Bardin infantry uniform comes with 1812-1815 prefix. Most agree the infantry did not use it in 1812. Just when it became common is never agreed upon some day 1813 some 1814 others say 100 days was thinking of first time it showed up in large numbers. But why is it then assumed the Chasseur a cheval and dragoons used their Bardin style uniforms in 1812? Simply because of assumed priority of the cavalry? |

Gunfreak- I think the latest research indicates that the Bardin uniform was first issued on a large scale (ie re-uniforming whole regiments) to the Grande Armee in Germany during the summer armistice in 1813. However, contemp illustrations of French infantry in Germany in late 1813 still show some troops in the earlier uniform- so although the Bardin pattern was issued on a large scale- it was still not supplied to everyone it would seem. I'm not aware of any details of how it was issued to troops in other theatres eg Spain/S France- maybe some units arriving which had been withdrawn and reconstituted, or re-inforcement cadres from depots? As for the cavalry- I've never seen any indication that they were supplied with Bardin uniforms with priority over their infantry comrades. I have some copies of sketches of Dragoons and Chasseurs from autumn 1813 wearing old pattern uniforms. |

That's what I've assumed (with out any hard evidence) |

Some regiments of chasseurs à cheval wore a habit court dit "à la Kinski", and well before Bardin uniforms. The look is similar, but not exactly the same.
Compared to Bardin ….
