When I made a visit to Israel in the late 1980s (before the Intifada), I traveled by bus from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. Along the road up the hills to Jerusalem, I could look down into the ravines and see armored and unarmored vehicles left as memorials from the 1948 War of Independence. They all had names painted on the side of the soldiers and civilians who died in them trying to open the road to Jerusalem. Sobering sight.

That first picture has caption
"An armoured tractor on peaceful duty, 1938."
Crew are wearing helmets. That vehicle is the same one that Sutton turned into the Sutton Skunk for his Chinese warlord.

I remember reading about these home made Israeli Armored Cars in number of sources. And even gamed with them in the old game "Jerusalem". About the '48 Arab-Israeli War.
