Hi

Just wondering what's happened to the old Vendel miniatures.
I've just got back into ancient gaming and managed to get some Vendel Indian figures 2nd hand.
It would be handy if I could get a few more!

Thanks
Tim

Sgt Major Miniatures used to sell the vendel line. Seems to be out of business now

I believe they were bought by a firm across the pond,

I have a bunch of vendel Indians left over from a project but I'm sure postage from the states here to you may not be do able.
Will see what I have and what the postage options are if you want?

Hi General Timmy, the Vendel moulds are in the US but out of production and possibly lost.

I was in a similar boat to you, and was slowly collecting the not-very-common Vendel Indians. Happily a new range has come out in the UK that is a near perfect match size and sculpt-wise; you can find them here.

I now have a small lead-mountain worth of these. :-)

Oh- also Aventine do some lovely Indian elephants with crew that would complement these very nicely.

"BRB" I have a small lead pile of these, I bet that's an under statement!

I'm sorry to hear that.

Lost?

Well, the range hasn't reemerged yet. From what I've heard the moulds were in a pretty bad shape, in any case, and would need to be remade…

Oh, OK. Thank you for the info!

Thanks for the input guys.
Yes thanks Simon, I do have some of Dave Toones new stuff, agreed a good match.

I would be interested to see what you have on offer and postage from the states, please, Aynsley?

My understanding was that the original Vendel molds were in poor condition but that Sgt. Major was planning to remake all the molds. I spoke with the new owner back when he had just purchased the company at one of the big US conventions. Other than a few elephants I actually haven't bought anything from Sgt. Major so I can't confirm that he did update the molds but I can't imagine that they continued to use the old Vendel sets as they were already in such bad condition (lots of flash, mold lines etc..)

The status of the Vendel range was discussed in the intro part of the recent Meeples and Miniatures podcast #230. They may have said someone did buy the range, but I don't remember who.

They did say the sculptor of the Vendel dwarves is doing a new dwarf range for Conqueror Miniatures.

A friend bought some Sgt Major minis either late last or early this year, and he said the quality was shocking. :-(

I bought the Vendel Border Reivers from Sgt Major and they were so badly cast, I couldn't save quite a few of them. Ended up giving away the lot.

Hoka-Hey now do a very nice line of Border Reivers and they are expanding steadily on the older range they bought. IMHO they go well with Vendel – good detail but not over fussy and quite easy to paint too.

Just because old threads never die, for the record, the Vendel molds are now owned and figures are being cast by T&R Miniatures in the US. Find us on Facebook or PM me here on TMP.

We bought masters, molds and inventory. Some inventory was clearly below our standard as fellow gamers and has been cast back into the melting pot to be recast. That QC effort and the use/testing of some 100 production molds across the 3 lines (28mm Renaissance/Border Reiver, Fantasy, Ancients) has taken us 18 months.

We aren't veteran casters but we are getting more than acceptable quality when we cast. We are using top grade pewter. Where we have issues we will pull molds out of production and make new molds. (A new skill we will be learning in the next few months.)

We are shipping product. We have found that people like these figures, there is an immense variety in the figures, and that they are easy to paint. Those are all reasons we took on the lines at T&R.

Thanks for reading.
