Hi all. Decades ago I picked up a variety of plastic cases with foam inserts that bore cavities to nestle individual figures. I was never really happy with them. Scratchy foam seemed to chip the paint, figures weren't held securely so I'd find them out of their cavities when I opened the case, putting figures in or taking them out seemed to take forever.

Eventually I switched to plastic photo boxes with magnetic sheeting that held all of my figures mounted on 1 inch washers or 40mmx40mm sheet metal. Worked great.

Recently I painted up some figures from Blood and Plunder, but their bases are only 20mm across, so I mounted them on smaller washers. There's not enough surface for the relatively weak magnetic sheeting to hold them and they wind up scattered about my photo storage box.

So, looking for a new solution. What's the best foam case for figure storage?

I would look at Figures in Comfort

And there is your problem. Get better sheeting. I recommend the heavy duty magnetic sheeting from Litko. Best there is.

JSears, in true TMP fashion I didn't read all the way through your post. "What's the best foam case for figure storage?"

I have the Chessex cases for some of my figures and while I haven't seen paint scratched off it does seem like it takes forever to put away/take out the figures. Also some swords and bayonets seemed to get bent.

Recently I tried using some movement trays that I had bought from Warbases. Not magnetized but held the figures ok taller figures fell over and the bases needed to be packed tight so they didn't slide in the box. I like this better than the foam cases especially for larger armies but will continue to experiment.

Still not really an answer to your question.
