One can imagine US forces operating in Mexico against one or more large drug organizations, but that would be with the consent and invitation of the Mexican government. Could the narcos get control of the Mexican federal government, leading the US to invade under a regime change justication? Maybe. |

Yes, The drug dealers win. |

If I remember correctly, the Mexican city of Juarez is about 70% surrounded by El Paso, TX. So the governor of TX convinces the US president to invade Mexico and take over the city. (You can fill in the blank as to why, reduce crime, drug trafficking, some US vip gets lost/captured, etc) Might be fun to game on the tabletop, but not very likely in the real world. |

This seems weirdly dystopic, altho' I suppose all things are possible in the crazy world we inhabit. Maybe the Mexican government falls in a coup and the US suddenly feels compelled to intervene? That would be acres of fun for everyone, either way. Maximilian's adventure went so well, after all. |

A conventional war? No way. Some kind of "irredentist" guerrilla movement arising in the southwest is slightly possible, but with zero chance of success at this time. |

Maybe something thing like the 1917 punitive expedition, but nothing like the 19th century war. |

I'm a law enforcement officer in Texas. We are already fighting a war with those people. |

I also think you are correct Choctaw. Thank you for you service as LEO on the Border. I'm sure it's tough work. Stay safe … |

I only see this happening if there was a breakdown/disaster in the US and we couldn't use all our forces against Mexico. Let's say the US suffers an EMP pulse or an asteroid strike or something that can do a lot of damage to this country then I can see Mexico taking advantage of our troubles and invading. |
Legion 4 | 29 Oct 2017 8:01 a.m. PST |
In reality, IMO the Mexican military is no real threat to the US. Save for in the case of the examples just mentioned. But even then, I'd put any US Infantry, Tank, FA, etc., unit against similar Mexican forces. |

Wow, how did I miss this topic? No, not a war. But, if the borders tighten up and restrict the flow of "spice", there will be many skirmishes by those on both sides who'd want the porosity to return. Dan |

War? Not likely, except in the case of real destabilization of the Mexican government warranting US intervention. Border skirmishes? Highly believable; they've been going on for years. I make sure I'm well-armed when near the border, especially in unpopulated areas – lots of illegals passing through, and not everyone crossing is a decent person looking for work. The use of US troops to assist with border security is entirely plausible. |

Only if they want to lose again. But as Choctaw has stated we are already at war with them. |
