When your opponents launch a particularly nasty offensive how do you respond?

rustymusket12 Oct 2017 4:27 a.m. PST

They have done exactly what I expected them to do and I wait for the perfect time to launch my counter-attack. (or I run. Some situations are different!)

I am stupefied and dumbstruck by the sheer audacity!

Nod, say "I see this is business as usual" and like Rusty Musket launch the ferocious counter attack

I smugly watch as my opponent falls into the cunning trap I've prepared. And then I stare, stupefied, as my opponent tears apart my inept dispositions and routs my forces from the table.

Either counter-attack, hold, or retreat. If my forces are in 'good' terrain than I will try to hold. If the situation presents itself to do great harm to my opponent than I will counter-attack, but will be cautious and study the situation to avoid any traps. If my forces are forced to retreat, then I will do something bold on another part of the battlefield and try to distract my opponent.

"My center is in retreat, it is impossible for me to maneuver, the situation is excellent, I will attack!"

Hold as long as possible, then fighting retreat. Make him/her pay for every inch.

Splice the mainbrace! Hoist the mainsail! Haul up the Jolly Roger! They bought it!

As a general rule, falling back two consecutive turns followed by a third turn counterattack almost always seems to catch an opponent by surprise in a game. Since by that point they are deployed without any real thought of defense, it allows a small counterattacking force to unhinge the opponent.

My dog like bananas … come to think of it she likes just about everything !

But how do I react to an attack ? Call in FA, CAS, Naval Fire Support. And use all the assets organic and supporting available to attrite and reduce the enemy forces. Then counter attack at the right time. Or something like that … evil grin
