In my DNA article – TMP link – I said I would start a wargaming project to honor my DNA heritage. Which project would you like to see me do? The Maximilian Adventure – During the American Civil War, France took advantage of the power vacuum and invaded Mexico, creating the Second Mexican Empire ruled by Maximilian Ferdinand. Other than the Battle of Camerone, I'll admit ignorance of this period and its feasibility for wargaming. Pits my Europe West lineage against my Native American lineage!
The Mexican-American War – This would certain pit the American and Mexican sides of my heritage against each other, and also tie in with my adopted lineage (three of my ancestors went to Mexico for the war, but they were not soldiers – just capitalists!). The Pancho Villa Expedition/The Punitive Expedition – General Pershing's pursuit of Pancho Villa in northern Mexico around 1917. Innovative use of new technologies, and asymmetrical warfare. Again, pits Mexicans against Americans. Conquistadors – Opportunity to paint some colorful Ancient American armies. Pits Iberian Peninsula versus Native American. Vikings in the New World – The failed colonization attempt by Vikings in the 10th Century. Or add your own suggestion! |

The Vikings in the New World would not require a lot of figures for either side. It also can morph into Viking raids in Europe and Natives vs early colonial settlers up to the French and Indian War. The Maximilian Adventure includes the Foreign Legion colorful mounted forces on both sides. It can also include US Civil War figures either painted as historical belligerents or for un-historical USA/CSA intervention. Add some Apaches and other Southwest Natives for added fun. |

Pancho Villa. Be sure to play the Tom Russell CD "Tonight We Ride". Actually there is a cowboy in the Rosebud Creek country of Montana who does a better job than Tom Russell. Tom |

The Maximilian Adventure includes the Foreign Legion Camerone ! I've been thinking about getting a DNA test … Hope I don't find out I've got any Klingon in me … or … well maybe not ! Bill you are quite an eclectic mix ! I'm sure many are surprised to find that out. AFAIK, my DNA only has 1 ethnicity … rumors are maybe French & Austrian too … |

I've ordered Gone to See the Elephant from TVAG so I can finally do Mexican/American War. I've wanted to do this era since the early 1990s, but never found the right set of rules. Hopefully these will be the one. BWW |

Pancho. In 28mm it's a nice visual. Also you can get by with fewer figures than the other periods. Raids and skirmishes were part and parcel of that period. |
