One thing came up in a recent game. A unit which is pinned can fire at half effect, but it can't move at all. And it cannot be rallied by a leader as long as it is in line of sight of the enemy. Now I can understand that if the unit is in the middle of a field. But how about if it is along the edge of a linear obstacle like a stone wall or hedgerow, or in a building? In real life the soldiers only need to duck down behind the wall or the hedgerow to be out of view and safe from fire. But in the game, they are stuck. They can't move so they can't pull back from the wall and get out of line of sight. So they have to stay there, getting shot at turn after turn until they break. Is that correct, or am I missing something? |

Without having the rulebook in front of me a unit that is pinned can't move towards the enemy. An UNATTACHED leader can't rally shock away while they are in line of sight of an enemy, but their junior leader or an attached senior leader can. They can't get the pinned status removed until they have fewer shock than figures AND a turn ends. |

A leader who is with the unit (within 4") can remove shock even if the unit is within sight of the enemy, but the unit cannot become unpinned until a turn ends (and then only if it has less shock than would keep it pinned. A turn can end either by use of a chain of command die or through one side rolling 3 sixes on their command dice. Until they are unpinned or break, they cannot move. Chris |

Page 19: A leader may "Rally one point of shock from any team he is attached to if it is in line of sight of the enemy" If you don't have a leader (dead) then you need to get a senior leader to rally the troops. |

Until a leader gets there to rally or waiting for the turn to end, another option is for a leader to throw smoke to ease the pain of more shock and kills, thus blocking the line of sight for enemy fire. Hope this helps. P. |

Two things here Scott. Firstly, how big is your wall? If the men are behind it and it is solid enough to hide them completely and solid enough to stop any fire then they cannot be seen and cannot be shot at. however, that would be a pretty impressive wall. Secondly, don't forget that pinned units count as being in better cover than they are. So troops in the open count as being in light cover; troops in light cover as being in hard cover. This represents them taking advantage of any cover they can find. Most likely, behind a normal wall, troops will, count as being in hard cover and will need a Leader with them to rally Shock. Hope that helps. Rich |
