Better a demotion than billing him for the cost of the missile… |

A BUNGLING Navy operator accidentally fired a torpedo at a nuclear dockyard that flew across a jetty and smashed into a fence. I would LOVE to see a nuclear dockyard fly across a jetty and smash into a fence. Maybe the bungling Navy operator was trying to stop it before it hit the fence. the misfire during what was meant to be simulated testing. Why were they testing misfires? "The aim of this get well package is to leave him fully trusted by himself and Command, having absorbed the lessons identified by this incident and increased his experience levels in the process. Kill me now. See what grading graduate papers does to me?

"…and increased his experience levels in the process." How many XP does one get for firing a torpedo at a nuclear dockyard? Do you automatically go to your next level? And can some GURPS or Traveller player suggest what the higher levels of Bungling Navy Operator are called? ("Admiral," I know. But can we be more specific?) |

Now, is this WORSE or not quite as bad as the torpedo that almost hit a ship that Roosevelt was on in WW2? |

The Bungling Navy Operator chain of promotion is as follows: Inflight missile repairman Outboard depth charge inspector Mystical Statistical Logistical Analystical-man Naval Intelligence Officer Fortunately, there are other promotion paths that lead to the NIO position. |

I would say that almost hitting the ship that had a polio crippled President would be worse. Even if he was a Democrat. The newsreel photos showing his wheelchair being lowered into a lifeboat….. Now ACTUALLY hitting any of these targets is a game changer. |

I'm still bewildered by "Simulated testing". Why do they simulate a test? |

Recently … The USN has over the past year or two has had some "problems" sadly … It seems like good examples of "Murphy's Law". Not to make light of the fact that Sailors died in some cases … |

Narratio, who were you with? You simulate a test because a real test might not provide the result you want. Anyone who has not seen Pentagon Wars go out now, buy the movie and resume the thread. |

Stryderg, did you ever run into the career path to NIO which runs through being a claustrophobic submariner? I actually ran into that one. |

Stryderg! You made my day! Laughed until the dog looked worried. Made me think of those pranks I heard are pulled on freshly minted sailor on their first cruises by veterans sending them to ships stores for cans of propwash or squeegy sharpeners, etc. TVAG |

Any RN vets out there? If Davenport is, in fact, a dockyard as opposed to a general naval base (not that I trust journalists use of any military terms), why was there ordnance in a launcher for a ship that was in a refit facility? |
