Would anyone know if there was any other difference between the two branches of HA than the colpack. I am thinking of the full dress hussar style uniform. Specifically, could I head swap some line into guard?

There is a marvellous set of line HA out there that I have my eye on – if the conversion will work.

Many thanks

Marc

The Guard Horse Artillery's service, or undress, uniform that was sometimes worn was the same as that of the Guard Chasseurs a Cheval, except of course that it was in dark (Imperial) blue with red piping and trim. So, a head swap would definitely work.

The Perrys do excellent sets of Guard Horse Artillery in service dress. If the set you have your eyes on to convert is the new Perry line horse artillery for the French in Egypt, then, yes a head swap for a colpack would work. (You would have to change the badge on the sabretache; easily done.)

Why is this in Gallery?

Phat Phingers oh Lord, so my error.

But hopefully friendly Naps fans can help me out as Brechtel and Artillery have done

But to ease your troubled soul, here's a picture of the source figures

Oh, and Artilleryman, the figures I have (and actually will probably buy more of as I want line as well as guard) are from Francesco's marvellous 1/72 Franznap range. It was seeing a recent picture of some ABs that made me ponder. In 1/72, Italeri do a set, but the colpacks are a tad teeny, whereas those on the ABs look full and wonderful. So I wil now try and source some good heads

Thanks for the help both of you

Marc

And just spotted that Bill had changed my title – the "cf" was intentional, but he thought I meant "of" – which does not work half as well. Oh well, c'est la vie

Marc, seeing the source figures makes it clear. Yes they would make Guard Artillery. Just be careful about sourcing your heads. I would try and stay with Fraznap for compatibility.

Agreed – need some time looking at his site as I recall he makes spare heads

I always thought the line HA wore colpacs in this period, with the hussar dress. Am I wrong about that, or did they wear both styles of head gear?

Great work Marc! Beautiful figures and great painting.
Cheers from Texas!

French horse artillery of the line wore shakos. Officers and trumpeters sometimes wore colpacks, but the shako was the usual headgear.
