Sorry for the abbreviated title. I was running out of space.

Anyway, let's say all you do is historical gaming and terrain, but you happen to notice a fella asking a question in a fantasy or sci-fi topic that deals with, say, rocky terrain or something you know you've done for your historical game interests. Or the situation is the other way around and you are into fantasy and sci-fi, and you notice that someone in historical gaming is asking about something you might have done in your unrelated genre.*

So … do you click and offer your ideas on that topic anyway, as it would be the kind and right thing to do despite the fact that not all your interests overlap, or do you just "keep on walking"?

Dan
* Or maybe a very marginal overlap on the terrain thing, like buildings with a similar architecture (like Old West style) but one of you uses them for historical gaming and the other for fantasy or sci-fi.

Offer ideas. Why wouldn't you? At the end of the day its all toy soldiers :)

Agreed.

JLA10530 Sep 2017 12:50 p.m. PST

Offer ideas. That's what TMP is really for.

If I have anything worthwhile to say, I say it!

I agree with what has been said by the four above me with the provision that the small number of things that I dislike bad enough to switch off in my profile I will not likely see to comment on.

Darn it, Dan!

Here you go again starting another topic that you know I will post on and get myself in trouble. If I get DH'ed it is all your fault! grin

I'm with herkybird, except for the part about "having anything worthwhile to say".

I don't take that into consideration.

Bashytubits30 Sep 2017 3:35 p.m. PST

If I know something that is relevant and helpful, absolutely. People helping out is one of the things that I appreciate TMP for.

wrgmr130 Sep 2017 4:18 p.m. PST

Definitely help out, we are all gamers.

Dynaman878930 Sep 2017 4:29 p.m. PST

If I think I have something useful or snarky to say I'll jump right in.

Winston Smith30 Sep 2017 4:55 p.m. PST

The entire world values my opinion on just about everything. So, of course. Noblesse oblige.

Frederick Supporting Member of TMP30 Sep 2017 6:23 p.m. PST

Sure – why not wade in with an opinion?

I offer ideas, and hope that people who mostly play outside my favorite ideas offer ideas on my questions. A look from outside can be full of insight.

It's human nature to offer advice about everything, whether you are expert or novice doesn't' seem to matter with the anonymity of the internet. And when you do know something and can assist, then is feels good inside and you can tell yourself at least you did one good deed today.

I have had plenty of people tell me "how to run a soldier company" and what do do "if I want to make money at this ???"

I'm with Herkybird, if I think I have relevant knowledge I'll put it up. It may make me sound negative when I've tried something and its turned out to be a failure, but I don't like seeing people make the same mistakes as I have.

goragrad30 Sep 2017 11:06 p.m. PST

Why not?

basileus6601 Oct 2017 3:56 a.m. PST

Depends. If I have some useful knowledge on the topic, even if it is not my "thing", I offer it. Otherwise, I just read and learnt from other participants.

Sure. Either they will learn something or I will. Win-win.

Hafen von Schlockenberg01 Oct 2017 8:31 a.m. PST

Is that question, Russ?

If so,my guess is yes???

Mike Target03 Oct 2017 10:12 a.m. PST

Opinions are like bum holes.

everyone has one and likes to show it off without anyone asking them to…

jefritrout03 Oct 2017 11:02 a.m. PST

I have a teenage kid (almost) so I am informed that I know very little. Despite that, I freely offer her advise, so why not include others.

Old Contemptibles03 Oct 2017 11:30 a.m. PST

How would I know since I have no reason to be on any Sci-Fi or Fantasy boards? I guess maybe on the Terrain board. Have nothing against it. It's all good.

Ottoathome04 Oct 2017 6:13 a.m. PST

so long as you answer from valid expertise there seems no harm.

kcabai24 Oct 2017 6:28 a.m. PST

Never tried that
