Steve Barber is currently working on a Great War range that will cover the early phases of 1914. I love the dynamical poses that so characterize the rapid war of movement during those early months of the war.

Here are a couple of the finished sculpts:

Happy you like the Zouaves!

This is a range I commissioned through Steve Barber. He has done an excellent job at these sculpts. First and foremost we will focus on the French side and make significant variety of troops and poses before moving on to other combatants.

What we want to portray is dynamical poses fitting of the rapid, chaotic, massive battles of movements during the early monts of the war. Fast movements, taking cover, firing line lying prone, casualties, etc.

The first focus now is French Zouaves and a firing line of French infantry lying prone.

- Heads will be un-attached to provide variation, as there will be released a significant variety of heads with and without facial hair.

- The next sculpt soon to be started is a French officer in greatcoat to lead the prone firing line.

A officer to lead the Zouaves will be added later.

- There are two more Zouave head sculpts on the way to add variety. That will make 3 different Zouave(Steve is working on a 3rd charging Zouave sculpt) charging poses with 5 different head sculpts.

- Other small details: The Zouaves will wear the head cover(no tassel). As heads are unattached its easy to convert for those that prefer that. Likewise French infantry/officers will also wear the cover. Creases will be added to provide more texture to the cover.

- A French firing line of soldiers lying prone on the ground is well on its way. Here are pictures of the sculpts:

And as I ponder on new ideas I will check in here for feedback. Would love to hear suggestions for new poses/units.

Would be very grateful for any feedback and help. And if any want to contribute and become part of this range it will grow faster.

Thank you.
More to come.

Very nice and sculpts that aren't duplicates of other figure lines. A couple of quick questions if I may?

When and where will these be available?

How will they fit in with other figures such as Renegade and Great War Miniatures?

Looking forward to seeing more of these.

Hi Big Red,
Thank you. They should fit in well and hopefully offer something new. I envisage they will be available by then end of this year or early next year. I am sculpting an extra charging Zouave and a French officer then the first French packs will be released.

@ Big Red: As I collect both 1914 Great War and Mutton Chop miniatures its been important that they are compatible and can add variety on the same table.

Here are some early shots of a German infantryman lying prone firing(cloth cover for helmet was later added):

Steve has just finished sculpting these two dashing Zouave heads:

Steve has worked on another 30 head sculpts that will provide plenty of variation and character on the table. 15 Zouaves, 15 French Infantry with kepi:

And some images of the New charging Zouave sculpt:

A French officer in greatcoat with two separate arm options to lead the firing line has been finished:

And finally the range is released and more packs are on their way. And quite a few of them will be zouaves..
