Hand flamers, they used to be ubiquitous with all flavors of Space Marines way back in the day. I seem to recall it is only the Blood Angles and their scions that now have them as part of their equipment for assault troops and the Death Company. I have digging out all kinds of old GW models including some first generation Space Marines, my how they have changed over the decades. Of course the old stuff is chunkier and shorter than the current plastic (and I am not talking about the Primaris Marines) but still some wonderful character to those figures. One in particular I found is holding a chain sword in his left hand and what is clearly a hand flamer in his right.

In current 8th edition flamer weapons are worth taking again. And here I am with this old model that I want to add to my growing force of vanilla Space Marines The Sons of Americus.

I've not bought the new SM codex so not sure if this has been addressed.

I know. I really don't like the way SM have been broken down into different official chapters. Much more fun when you could customize your own.

Of course you still can if your players are OK with it just by picking and choosing from the army list and foregoing the codexes.

I still have a bunch of hand flamer bitz. I used them when I made an assault marine squad simply for variety. As I recall, they really sucked in the game. Very small template and weak damage made killing anything other than a gretchin or 2 impossible.
Still, I like the idea and the look.

Angry Piper, now that templates have been done away with the hand flamer may now be a more lethal weapon. Oh and it would also count as a pistol which makes it all the more a must have I would think.

Going back and looking at the Imperium Index I I see that what the Blood Angles have is called an Inferno Pistol. In effect a melta gun that is a pistol and quite nasty.

And yes there is not an entry for hand flamers. I propose that the following stat line and point cost be used in friendly games.

Hand Flamer: Point cost is 4 and is an Assault weapon, a Sergeant or Space Marine character my substitute their Bolt Pistol for a Hand Flamer

Range:6" Assault:3, Strength:4, AP:0 Damage 1

This weapon auto hits and counts as a Pistol

Other pistols beside a Bolt Pistol, which is free cost 7 or 8 points and have much higher strength, AP and damage values.

A regular flamer cost 9 points has a range of 8" and is Assault 6. Stat line for strength and AP is the same.

Sounds good to me, kallman.

I'm still planning on using mine.

Play Blood Angels or Genestealer cult. We have tons of hand flamer options!
