Hi all; We just recently played a game of Naval Thunder, the Battle of Tsushima 1905, using Houstons 1/1000 scale ships. As my mind tends to do, I wondered about running a 1980s to present day refight with modern ships in 1/2400 scale. I would use either Shipwreck rules or another set titled Naval Command. Anyone tried this….where can I find a list of Japanese ship possibilities. Thanks |

Viking Forge has a several Japanese destroyer classes from the 1980s. GHQ has a few Russians, CinC has a few more. Superior Alnavco lists quite a few but most are not available. SeaWulf has a couple of Kotlins. That is what is available for play |

Three of us played Victory Games 7TH Fleet many years ago. At one point the Russian player assembled his fleet and tried to break out into the Pacific from the Sea of Japan via the Tsushima. It was a major sortie by the Russian Fleet and it was a disaster. Only one lonely DDG made it out. Terry |

Thanks for the info; Good stuff as always. I already have several Soviet ships from GHQ and Viking Forge. Since they are ships more suited to the 2000s, I will probably build an opposing Jap force more current than the 1980s. T. Callahan; that's kind of what I had in mind as a scenario. I found a listing of the Japanese Maritime Defense Force on line. |

The Japanese have a *very* competent submarine force that makes blue-water deployments (I've seen them in Hawaii before, rather interesting to see a huge Rising Sun flag in Pearl Harbor), and lots of hulls. You'd probably have a good dozen subs present at a modern-day Battle of Tsushima. |

Doesn't GHQ also have modern Japanese ships? |

Hi CP; yes they do (GHQ), I took some time last night and compared what they offer to what the Japanese ship strength is. Hi LitS; I'm not sure what I'd do to represent the Subs and have them in the battle. I'm thinking, just doing surface forces. There are a quite a few great images I found on-line of ships flying the rising sun, it must have very interesting to see that sight at Pearl. |
