Hey guys, Since my holiday to Bulgaria I have been looking for some 28mm Thracians(Getae,Tribanni or Odryssians) from arround 278BC. I'm not sure how similair the Dacians are from Warlordgames? They look nice but i'm not sure about if they can be used as Thracians. Also the time period is way off since they are more for Trajan's Dacian wars (100-ish A.D.). Anyway if anybody know's about Thracians, or figures that can serve as Thracians please let me know. Thanks, Leo |

Foundry has an extensive range. Crusader make some. Aventine have said they will do some also. I'm sure there are others. I have a mix of Foundry and Crusader and they go well together. If you're looking for cav, I have an offer in the Ancients marketplace still I think…. |

According to WRG' Armies and Enemies of the Macedonian and Punic Wars (available online I think) Thracians would have been helmeted with thureos shields. In addition to the above figure suggestions, you may care to look at Essex and Relic Miniatures. Relic does a nice Command Group. You never know, Victrix (plastics) may have Thracians in their planning. |

You could probably go either way on the Thracians in around the 270s bc. The Thureos shield was probably introduced by the Celtic invaders in 279 so I imagine the era the OP is looking at is a bit of a transition period from the older tribal styles and equipment to the more classic Hellenistic Thracian styles and equipment. |

One complication is that the Kazanluk tomb, which dates somewhere either side of 300, shows warriors with oval shields before the Celtic invasion – such as these chaps link The shields may not be quite the same as the classic thureos, though. I would add Essex to the list of manufacturers – link |

I love the Foundry Thracian figures. I also have picked up some A&A and Crusader figures and they mix very well with Foundry. They represent the earlier costume style of the Thracians (Crusader has both earlier and later styles.) GurKhan seems to think in AMPW that by 278BC the costume style had evolved under Greco influences but I think a good case could be made that many Thracian tribes still had the earlier look. |

Oh, I didn't realize A&A had some. I have quite a few A&A figures and really love them. |
