Only the tent extension is a lot longer than that.

We had operational set up with two back to back which made a large operations area. I saw one excercise where three in a T set up was used but never four.
I had two in my mortar 4.2 platoon of a tank battalion. We never deployed the extensions. It would have slowed and hindered deployment of the FDCs.

Squadron Tocs in 3d ACR. Four Tracks: 1 S2, 1 S3, 1 ENG, 1 FA/FS.
Usually formed an L shape with extensions. Made for a massive TOC Extention area..

Then there were the camouflage nets, and the scores of antennas…and generators…and command jeeps/HMMV's parked all around.

Regimental TOC for 3d ACR when it was fully setup was so large it was nicknamed "The Taj Mahal"…

Yes, all our M577s had those, but yes I remember it being longer too …

I remember some other HQ TOCs being called that as well. evil grin

I've worked in side by side, back to back and "L." But I think what they're showing there is one section of the extension where there would normally be three. Won't say it's never done, but I never saw it.

Takes me back, though.

We never liked putting it up, as was said takes a long time to get down when you want to roll out fast. It was almost always the commanders who wanted us to put it up, then complain that we were taking to long to march order.

When I was a cavalry squadron S2, we had very sharp knives with each track (S2, S3, and FS) that could be used to cut away the extension if we needed to make a quick get-a-way.

And I agree with several of the other posters that the extension is too short. We always deployed the entire extension when we set up our TOC.

Tank battalion S2 and 1st AD TAC CP, '84-'87. We set up the extensions and put up cammo nets during every exercise and every move. We got pretty good at putting it up and taking it down. 3 extensions in various combinations. Ops, Intel, Fires.

The extension on the model is 1 bay too short. Never saw one set up that way.

Need a 577 with all the tentage in 15mm.

Either that or some pictures of one with all the camo nets deployed.
