Anyone any experience of these rules for large space battles? Alan |

In a galaxy long ago and far away I read the rules. IIRC they were of enough interest to me that I planned to try playing them but for some reason never got around to it. |

That's always the way, isn't it? Any recollection of anything specific about them and how quickly they would play with, say, 20 vessels each side? It is rules for large battles I am looking for. |

Now that they've come up as a topic, I'll go back and look, but I never got the hang of how it should be played. Not uncommon with me; doesn't take much to get me confused, but I usually can get a hook unless they're either internally contradicting, or just 'missing something.' Of course, there were a lot of items on the download site that seemed connected, and I never figured out exactly what worked with what and how. Doug |

Wow, Battleshift from Thane's Games? I looked at that while I was working on GOBS, way back when. IIRC, Battleshift divides the battlefield into large zones, moving ships around as large group formations rather than individual vessel movement. The shape of the formation was significant to the combat results in some fashion, though honestly it's rather vague in my head. I never played the game as it wasn't the approach I wanted, though I thought it was an intriguing concept. |

Alan, still haven't dug into the ruleset (Fellow traveller helper: massive fail), but Parzival's comment rang a dim bell in my equally dim memory, suggesting I found it TOO abstract to get my head around. I will still try to take another look, but breath-holding is contraindicated. The path from a to b is filled with terrible distractions. Pudding? Where? Doug |
