hi guys
my original question got beamed elsewhere, 2nd attempt

a modern supercarrier has fast combat support ships(underway replenishment ships) assigned as part of battle group
so what was the story for ww2 us navy
haven't got much info on this
thinking fleet oilers cimmeron class
what about ammunition and general stores ships
hardly liberty or victory class ships??

If the US Navy is transporting 1800 Austrians it didn't get beamed elsewhere.
I'm not the guy to answer other than casual reading but think destroyers and a sub are involved in the WWII orders.

It depends on the period.

The carrier battles in 1942 both sides used oilers. The battles are so short lived that no munitions were reloaded in the course. Afterwards the survivors retired to bases for replenishment and/or repairs.

Once the US fleet was geared up in 1944 the fleet train would establish a forward base.
