I wanted to be able to write wipeable information on my bases, so I kept a space that I painted then varnished with gloss three times for finish.

When I write on the base with a wipeable pen, the ink stays (see the number 4 that I tried as a test).

Any idea how to make this band wipeable? That'd be much much appreciated.

thank you

Use a vinyl strip

Its all in what you are useing to write with.
Greese pencil or a marker for kids that can be wiped clean.
Stay away ftom red as no matter what it is hard to fully remove.
The 3 coats of varnish is a good start.

I'd probably stick down a suitably cut-to-size strip of thin styrene sheet.

OK, it would be white, but you could jazz that up with a decal or 2 at either end (e.g. CTRY ID, roundel, etc).

Then you could use thin Lumicolours to your heart's content.

I would cover it with a piece of packing tape cut to size. That will wipe clean and be replaceable if anything goes wrong.

The other day I saw white erasable tape in a roll at the office supply store. That might work.

Dwindling Gravitas10 Sep 2017 6:48 a.m. PST

I'd question the durability of tape tbh

Clear packing tape.

Why not use a strip of normal freezer tape and replace
it each time ? The tape takes black marker really well
and it won't wipe off.

Could you use the sticky end of a post-it note of an appropriate color, cut to fit? It may depend on how long you need any particular label to stay on the base.

I am trying at the moment packing tape. The tape I have is not transparent but it is easily removable without damaging the paint.
It is not so bad actually. I will try transparent tape as well.

I will post pictures.

thank you.

I tried with the packing tape I had. It is actually fine and can be very easily peeled off.

I will try to see if it is better with transparent tape but so far, it looks like a solution.

Matches the base better than the original green, too :)

Have you thought of masking tape it's easy to peel off afterwards as well

Clean off the ink with fingernail polish remover.
