"In the grim dark of the far-future, there's lots of armored pieces around you might have to worry about when going into battle. From huge titans and gargants to terminators and crisis suits, you're gonna need a way to get those enemies off the board. Bathing them in balls of plasma is a good option. And that's just what you can do with the Legion Sicaran Omega Tank Destroyer, available to order now from Forge World…"

In game terms this tank is an absolute beast.

Except in game terms (at least 8th edition) its tank destroyer weapon and main armament wouldn't take out a rhino in an average round of shooting.

Your not adding in the LasCannons which do D6 wounds apiece. It definitely has more punch in 7th edition Horus Heresy rules than in 8th where it becomes a heavy infantry killer more than a tank destroyer.

I specifically said that I was talking about its tank destroyer weapon. But I wasn't forgetting about the lascannons either.

The lascannons are add-ons and even then with 5 S9 shots, hitting on 3 and wounding on 3, leaving a 6+ save and causing an average of 3.2 wounds you are still only inflicting 7.1 wounds on a rhino on average. Now you might get lucky and add a mortal wound by rolling a 6 to wound but even then . . .

So even including the lascannons it is not, in an average round of shooting, taking out a rhino.

The main armament is likely only going to inflict slightly more than 3 wounds on the rhino by itself.

I really like the design of the Sicaran chassis.

I think the guns look quite decent, too.

But I don't like them together … I think I prefer the basic Sicaran battle tank.

All purely from an aesthetic PoV, not gameplay.

I've not played a vehicle heavy game as of yet with the 8th rules but so far my Space Marine Dreadnaught got smoked in one round of shooting from Firedragons who were augmented by Doom and Guide psionics. In the same battle my Predator shrugged off a number of shots from Waithguard. Clearly it is going to be harder to knock vehicles out in this edition which will result in some interesting changes of tactics. 1d4Chan talks about "distraction carnifexes," in other words putting a big mean looking model down on the table to draw lots of fire while your real attack is coming from another direction and unit. So far in my area I am not seeing the BIG games. Most folks seem to be enjoying smaller 1000-1500 point games and that is alright by me. When I was living in Texas and under 7th edition it was HUGE battles with lots of big stompy vehicles. Which was too rich for my budget so I did not play. Plus 7th had become so bloated and ridiculous, but that another story and now past history.

My hope is that 8th will do for 40K what Age of Sigmar appears to have done for Warhammer Fantasy. That is it is driving more of a narrative game and having a focus on fun. I have no interest in the tourney scene.

Speaking of AOS I may have to give it another look. Again, my oldest Son is the one pulling me back into the GW world. I still have a few of my armies (most all painted) from 6th and 7th edition Warhammer Fantasy. Mainly Chaos, Lizardmen and Bretonnians (which are no longer part of the game world sadly, but they are seeing new life in Dragon Rampant.) I am not going to re-base all of my old GW fantasty figure from square to round bases but that should not be an issue. Just need to snag a copy of the AOS rules at some point and give it a look see.

I will add that the Sicarian Omega is an great looking model regardless of how good its potential battlefield role in game.

I haven't played a game of 8th with vehicles in it at all yet. Partially this is due to the fact that we have been using my new space ship corridor terrain, partially due to the fact that I haven't played a game of anything in almost a month now and partially due to the fact that the armies we have been playing with don't have any vehicles in them just yet.

I'll have to at least buy one of the new Dreads for my Ultramarines and try it out at some point. I'm kind of swamped with orders right now for any personal painting though.

That being said, from what I've read it seems that vehicles have become pretty resilient as far as things go. With Rhinos taking an average of 4 hits from lascannons before being destroyed they certainly are significantly better troop delivery options than they used to be, probably more resilient than Land Raiders in 3rd edition.

I do think it looks really cool though and it is the first sicarian I've been tempted to buy.
