I am planning to build a small Chinese fort with some damaged walls to represent Tuyen Quang in Vietnam, circa 1885. I would be interested in buying a kit or kits and doing some kit bashing. I could really use help with those Asian roofs with their curved corners. 28mm, please. |

Can you provide an image of the fort in question? |

It was under heavy artillery barrage and several mines were successfully detonated during the siege. So I visualize intact fort bits interspersed with lots of ruined walls. |

Old Glory used to make a set of walls and other bits for their Boxer Rebellion line, but I'm pretty sure they are OOP, although they have started remaking some of their 28mm terrain I believe. The walls are pretty basic block structures with a firing platform on one side and a strip of tiles on the parapet. Past suggestions for the tiles have been to use corrugated cardboard sheet with only one side smooth which used to be used to wrap glass light bulbs or could be purchased as gift wrap in craft stores. Cut to size then use a blunt scriber and rule to crease the corrugations into tiles – these were up to 2x longer than European tiles. To make the roofs curved you will just have to make curved bracing and glue the tile sheets on top, as for the exact shape of the corner curve, look up making mitre joins in wooden moldings on a woodworking site. |

Nick, I am now producing the Renaissance Miniatures East Asian building range in laser cut ply. There are a variety of buildings including ones with curved roofs – I could supply just the roofs if you wanted them… Look at the gallery on the Renaissance Miniatures site for a view of all the buildings. That's it! Thanks for the link to the video. I think the postcards are from a later period. But I am sure the river stayed the same. |

Dan, a belated thanks for the photos and links! Finally, almost two years later, I am going to put on the game in July. That gives me three weeks to build the fort. I am going to cannibalize a foam Foreign Legion fort and fill in the gaps with gabions and other hasty works. Thanks again! |

Nick, did you get the chance to finish the fort for the game? |
Nick Stern | 07 Jul 2019 7:45 p.m. PST |
I fell back on the loan of all of the OOP Old Glory Foreign Peking legations and used those for 80% of the walls. I scratch built some breached wall pieces and I am using a big foam WW1 no man's land piece to represent the big breach, the result of multiple mine explosions. I'll try and post photos soon. The game in on Saturday, July 13. |

Hello, Nick. Are you talking about roofs like these? link I'm also making some Chinese architecture models, large scale, around 1/30. The roofing method we used is quite complicated, but we can make a perfect roof. I can send you some pics just for reference. |

Which Old Glory Foreign Peking legations? |
Nick Stern | 12 Jul 2019 11:43 a.m. PST |
Years ago Old Glory made all the Peking Legations in 25mm. Sadly, they are no longer in production. A friend of mine collected the whole set and I am using about a third of the pieces for the walls and gates. |
