This morning during my lay-over at Charlotte airport, I decided to indulge in a bit of luxury and get a shoe shine. (Shoe shines & straight edge shaves from a barber are the ultimate in guy pampering in my mind). While getting my shine a gentleman sat down in the chair next to me to get his shoes shined. I commented on his bronze star lapel pin and we started up a conversation where I learned he is a professor of history at the University of Richmond. We talked about Tudor England and about the English Civil War of all things. It was a delightful conversation with a person who had a fantastic in depth knowledge of history. When I asked him what he's published, he pointed out that he hosts "A Moment in Time" on NPR. As I listen to ATIM whenever I get the chance I was embarrassed that I hadn't recognized his voice. His show is fantastic and I highly recommend it to anyone with even a passing interest in History. And I can say the host is a true gentleman and scholar.
