I like these.

Riiiiiipppp! [The sound of money being torn out of my wallet!]

Logging into e-Bay to locate the Orc Catapults, the fire demons, etc… Gotta have the siege equipment. Those trolls have been taunting me for a couple of years now. So far, I've been able to restrain myself. ["Give in to the Dark Side, Slag… You know you want to. Resistance is a futile waste of energy and effort…"]

Well, this sucks. Can't find any of them on the Internet, for sale, or otherwise. Any lines on where to order them from?…

GrumpyOldMan04 Sep 2017 5:01 p.m. PST

Hi

The figures come through Red Box and Orion. The email listed for distribution queries is orionfigures@yahoo.com and the general email for Red Box is info@theredbox.com.ua.

These sets aren't shown on their web page yet though.

Cheers

Wow these are great! The two sets of "fire demons"/Balrogs are very cool.

Arkansan04 Sep 2017 11:11 p.m. PST

Very nice looking. Good to see 1/72 fantasy fleshing out.

cameronian05 Sep 2017 1:04 a.m. PST

A must really, just to have them if no other reason. With Trolls #1 already released I can feel another army coming on. Hannants have them all listed but not yet in stock (as at 04/09).

Marc at work05 Sep 2017 2:23 a.m. PST

I have successfully ordered direct before – the owner is a very nice man.

Fire demons – oh boy, I can see me raising an army of these – very in keeping with first age wars…

And the orc catapult.

So many goodies in 1/72 plastic – a golden age indeed

Apparently they won´t be released until the middle of this month.

No sign of them on e-Bay, or Amazon, yet. Impatiently waiting… Thanks for the update, and the official web address! Cheers!

Pre-ordered four sets from Michigan Toy Soldier Company, thinking it was one per box. Getting 8 catapults instead of 4… Will have to wait on a set of Fire Demons. Cheers!

Pauls Bods25 Sep 2017 12:44 p.m. PST

I see what you did there. Why they didn´t release one catapult with one of the trolls as a complete set I …oh…doh!… just a Moment…of Course..either the trolls or the catapults are useless on thier own so both sets Need to be bought.
From the boxart I can´t work out how the catapults fit together but I suppose it can´t be too difficult.

Still no sign of any of them in any Shops here :-(

E-mail inquiry sent.

Did you get a Reply?

Yes, but it did not say when… Still no signs of them on e-Bay, nor Amazon.com… Frustrating, but they will be here soon -- I hope… Cheers!

Marc at work25 Sep 2017 2:37 p.m. PST

The box does say two catapults. Am I missing something?

Personal logo Sgt Slag Supporting Member of TMP26 Sep 2017 8:27 a.m. PST

No, you are not, but I did… I thought there was one catapult per box, not two. Guess my Orc Armies will be better equipped than I thought. Cheers!

UPDATE:

Placed a pre-order with Michigan Toy Soldier Company, and they checked upon request, with their distributor. These sets should be delivered to them, in 2-3 weeks…

That means that these mini's sets should appear as being in stock, at your favorite mini's seller, around 10-25-2017.

Very disappointing to see them advertised so long before they are available… Came across as if they would be available to order within a couple of weeks. Cheers!

Marc at work06 Oct 2017 5:48 a.m. PST

You must be new to the world of plastics – Airfix would release a catalogue in January and the new figures would not appear until December grin

Another way to think of it is – it builds anticipation, and stops us plastic fans thinking we need to find metal alternatives

Or that it is like Christmas – we all know when it is, but it is still a long way off

Just kidding – I share your frustration. But I am so chuffed that these are even available that I will forgive them this one time

All the best

Marc

My Orc Catapults finally shipped from Michigan Toy Soldier, yesterday. Should arrive by Saturday. Looking forward to getting these, really looking forward to playing with them on the table!

I have a band of Hobgoblins, in a wooden fort, with siege engines, defending against attack by a Dwarven Army, complete with Ram Cavalry, which I plan to use these in. Should be a blast: the humanoids have a few surprises up their orange sleeves, like Longbowmen on the walls, catapults inside, and spike-filled covered pits, in the approaches to the fort, tailor-made for Cavalry charges… What a grand, bloody battle it will be! Cheers!

Pauls Bods26 Oct 2017 9:49 a.m. PST

Sounds good. The Ram cavalry..what make are they?
The catapults are a bit of a pain to construct but when you know how it goes pretty easily

The Dwarven Ram Cavalry are Ral Partha Europe. Still available for around $6 USD/set, rider + mount, plus shipping. Great, metal figures, older sculpts, so not uber-detailed, which is perfectly fine by me.

Mystery solved on the Orc Catapults and the Trolls: I did not understand what role the Trolls served. I leaped without really knowing what I was getting into… Not a problem. I will make them work, sans Trolls. I plan to doctor them, to work as set piece engines, maybe I'll put wheels on them, maybe not. Looking at the photo's of the box, I assumed they were a fantasy catapult, to be sitting on the ground. No problem. I am thinking I can add some bamboo skewer shafts to keep the rock loads off of the ground. It should be a fun mod-project. Thanks for the heads' up on them. Cheers!

I received my four Catapult sets. I agree, they don't make sense from a functional standpoint, but other than that, they are quite nice: deep wood grain detail; nice texture for the ropes wrapped in various locations on the machine; some metal reinforcement bits scattered around the machine; decently detailed crewmen, which can be painted as Orcs, Goblins, or even Hobgoblins -- one fellow is sitting, one hand down, the other gesturing. The four crewmen are animated, and functional for the set; I plan to place the seated fellow on a rock ammunition pile -- see below.

I did not realize they were intended to mount on the backs of Trolls -- likely would have stopped me from ordering them if I had known that. Fortunately, they are easy to ground-mount. I just shaved off the nub that locks into the Troll's back, which gave them a smooth, flat bottom surface.

For glue, I used E6000, with good results, all around. My wheels are staying in place, the armature securely attached to the base, and the rock slings are holding very nicely, as well as the angled brackets, up front.

I am mounting mine on 4"-squares of MDF, for bases. I took around 8-10 small stones, from an aquarium pack, and I glued them to the base, near a corner, to represent ammunition for the Catapult. I will likely seat the one Orc on top of the rock pile, with the other crewmen closer to the Engine, itself. Painting the engine seems quite easy, and straight-forward.

I always apply The Dip, so I don't bother with primer, I just paint directly on the plastic, with craft paints, and then seal with the urethane-stain, which is flexible, and forms a tight skin over the plastic. So far, the cheap acrylic craft paints have adhered nicely to the plastic, which is a pleasant surprise! I just washed them in dish soap and water, just a quick swirl, really, no brushing even. Once sealed, the paint should outlast my lifetime, and that is good enough for me. ;-)

I see that Hong Kong is now selling these sets on e-Bay, for around $9 USD + $5 USD Shipping. The best price I've seen yet.

Overall, I would highly recommend these to anyone desiring Orc/Goblin/Hobgoblin Catapults. Forget the Trolls, unless you have a need for them. The Catapults will work as standard, on-the-ground artillery, if you just shave off the nub on their bottoms with a sharp razor knife -- easy-peasy. The figures had some flash, but not a lot; they are quite easy to clean up with a sharp razor knife. Great fantasy set! I will post photo's when I finish painting these up, likely in a month, or two. Cheers!

Which E6000 do you use – on eBay there appear to be a variety

Thanks

The only problem with all these sets appearing AT ONCE is that the order I started putting together soon got to well over £100.00 GBP

I shouldn't baulk, but with so much other stuff already unpainted introducing that much in one go is….not wise.

Oh for a local model shop where I could just pick up a box or two every week….

Pauls Bods02 Nov 2017 6:22 a.m. PST

But ordering in bulk saves on postage ?
I know hat you mean with the unpainted stuff. I´ve got enough to last me well into next year…but…there´s a couple of other sets I´ve got my eye onand if I don´t get them now they could possibly go out of production…..evil grin

The figures had some flash, but not a lot; they are quite easy to clean up with a sharp razor knife. Great fantasy set! I will post photo's when I finish painting these up, likely in a month, or two. Cheers!

I look Forward to them.thumbs up
I´ve decided to scratch build a "for purpose" catapult for my Orcs. I´m not 100% happy with My Upgraded "Toy" Version
