I've posted our wild west rules on my blog. They are playing card driven and come under the "fast and furious" class of games.

Interesting. Some time ago someone mentioned Old West rules on TMP that were played by dealing out poker hands (I don't know if they were referring to these rules, or another homegrown set). I like the idea and think it give some "period flavor."

I use playing cards for Legends of The Old West when I have more than two players to determine the order of play. Works out great and as you said adds flavor

When you say all cards are returned, do you mean that they are discarded or reshuffled with the deck? It sounds like every turn starts with a fresh hand of cards. Is that correct?

I think that was us playing an old version of the game – it was called Liberty then and each player only played 1 card at a time. This speeds it up

All of the the cards are reshuffled into the deck so each turn you start afresh with 5 cards
