Hello All,

So in 8th Edition Vehicles are kinda-like large Beast of War, with Wounds, Toughness, and a Armor save.

I was continuing to read through the rules and I realized an interesting thing about vehicles.

With the fact that the worst "to wound" roll is a 6+ regardless of the strength delta. This means it is possible, however remote, that a large amount of grunts armed with nothing but lasguns could take out a Lemon Russ Tank. Hmmm…so 40K tanks are vulnerable to rifle caliber fire.

I'm not passing judgement on this. The simplification in game mechanics is just producing a unexpected (to me) result.

Do all the weapons that have the old style "rendering" ability, such as Eldar (AlEldari) Shuriken catapults, work as normal against vehicles? A roll of 6 to wound would reduce the vehicle's armor save by -3.

Also can vehicles charge and enter melee like normal troops?

Can vehicles use the advance move?

Thanks

They can advance. They can assault. And yes, enough lasgun shots will take down a leman russ, or a titan. But it is a LOT of lasgun shots that are needed.

Overall vehicles are significantly tougher than they used to be.

If Tom Hanks can take out a tank with a dirty sock. I don't see the issue.

It's always good to allow grunt armies to compete against elite ones. Otherwise no one would use them, if they didn't have a chance to win. History is full of mobs of grunts getting the upper hand on lesser numbers of elites or better armed soldiers. So why not the future too?

Becareful with melee, your vehicles can be pinned in melee.
On their turn they can back out of combat but not fire.
I usually ride with a squad of grunts to jump out and clear away any bothersome types.
And yes my orks are very good at taking out tanks in melee.

Somebody calculated the number of hits you would need with a lasgun to take down a Land Raider – yes it's possible but if you are firing all those shots at a Land Raider instead of the rest of the enemy I would say it's done it's job whether it dies or not lol.

Killing a land raider or leman russ with lasguns would never happen in a normal game, it would only happen in the fevered dreams of 8th edition haters.

It is possible to knock the last wound or two off a vehicle with small arms fire.

Overall, in actual play, vehicles are much less fragile than in 7th edition. But with the right weaponry, you can take out vehicles quite quickly.

So far I am seeing that vehicles are more durable. However, if you walk you dreadnought into range of a team of Eldar Firedragons you will be quick fried and roasted and with good reason as I learned the hard way.
