Wow, when water got into our house last night, I went into my neighbor's with the two dogs (because they have a 2 story). It rained most of the night. Now I woke up and it looks like there is just one big sea of water.

Helicopters and boats in the distance. I'm told one of the boats is coming for us now.

Good luck Dan! I am from Houston and have been following things from my friends on Facebook. It is a huge mess and I send prayers out to all of y´all there.

Doug (War Monkey),

If you read this, Sent you some pics. Lol. This is starting to look like it could have the makings of a "Barge Town". :)

Cacique Caribe29 Aug 2017 7:53 a.m. PST

Thanks guys!

Despite the fact that it has stopped raining, water seems to still be rising.

I hope you get out Dan, they opened the flood gates from the 2 res. up stream, so it's going to get higher.

Unfortunately, you are getting a real life glimpse of some post-apoc terrain. Good luck and staff safe.

"Phone battery at 3% now" wasn't that the last message from Stalingrad?

Stay safe, everything can be replaced but people.

Hi guys. Thanks so much for the kind and heartfelt comments.

Update:

After 3 boats and one truck ride through water, I finally got to Alexander Elementary in Katy TX, where my brother in law (Dot's sister) picked me up and took us to his house. They are amazing family, so I'll be well taken care of.

When I got picked up the water inside was already 9 inches but was still rising. After comparing notes with others in the neighborhood, it seems we got off easy. Some neighbors were flooded much worse. And the stories coming from Houston and other places, like the flooded nursing homes and other people with serious medical conditions and those with little kids, makes me feel extremely lucky.

I must point this out … I've never seen so many people helping each other out and coordinating efforts with law enforcement and agencies. Wow.

Dot is still in Austin where I hope she stays for a few more days. There are very few open roads between here and there, plus there isn't much for her to do when the house still has water (other than to drain her emotionally for no reason).

So, my dogs and I are fed, warm, safe and strangely calm. Stuff is just stuff. Parents and the rest of the family who live close by were spared all of this, thank God, so they are safe and sound. Life is all that matters.

My back is killing me, so I ate something, took my meds, and now am ready to crash.

Keep on gaming. I live vicariously through you guys.

Dan
PS. Battery now at 100%. :)

Bashytubits29 Aug 2017 10:31 p.m. PST

Hooray for 100% charge! I am glad you and yours are safe Dan. I am praying for folks in Texas.

Whew.

Cacique Caribe30 Aug 2017 6:32 a.m. PST

I'm just extremely glad I wasn't wheelchair-bound, like these nursing home residents in Dickinson TX. I believe Dickinson might be Murphy's original hometown (?).

Glad you & your hounds are safe ! Happy to see those in the nursing home are safe too !

coopman30 Aug 2017 7:27 p.m. PST

I'm so glad to hear that you are with family and are being well taken care of.

Cacique Caribe30 Aug 2017 8:11 p.m. PST

Well, despite having to zig zag because of multiple road closures, my wife made the drive from Austin to Katy. I kept trying to talk her out of it but that proved an impossible task.

So, now our pack is complete, the two dogs, Dot and myself. Currently staying with Dot's sister. We might move to her parents' home later this week though.

It might take a couple of weeks for the water to recede in our neighborhood and for us to be allowed to see our homes. And it might take a few months to make things look normal again. But, like I said, it's just stuff.

Dan: Glad to hear that your family is safe and together.

Cacique Caribe31 Aug 2017 12:25 p.m. PST

Looks like the water in our neighborhood is staying put. Not flowing out at all.

I just saw my house on tv on a flyby video. Wow. It's definitely going to be several days before we can get back to the house to see what we can salvage.

In the following picture we are top center, almost next to the canal:

Dan
PS. Whenever we finally do make it back to the house (in a week or two), whatever figures I find are going to need new homes. There is no room for them where we are moving to next. So stay tuned. You guys might be getting some free minis out of this. :)

14Bore01 Sep 2017 5:25 p.m. PST

Dan, keep us informed on your situation, maybe someone can just take your figures 'on loan'.

War Monkey02 Sep 2017 6:44 p.m. PST

I could foster care your figures, until your ready.

I'm sure others that are close to your location could as well.
