A great indepth analysis of 1991 Persian Gulf war from an Iraqi perspective.

Invasion of Kuwait and battle at Al-Khafajh seem to offer lots of scope for wargaming.

Thanks for the link, I will have to check that out. I always wanted to game Al Khafji, probably using 15mm and AK47 Republic which would replicate some of the issues when the Sauds and Iraqis were fighting over the town. There was also a battle during the invasion of Kuwait whose name escapes me; the Kuwaiti forces did a number on the Iraqis prior to falling back. Maybe game that with 6mm and Tank Wreck.

Was it the Battle of the Bridges?

According to the document I posted apparently the Iraqis weren't interested in engaging Kuwaiti forces. Their emphasis was speed.

They had assigned infantry brigades to each armoured/mechanised division to deal with any strong points.

The Kuwaitis actually thought the Iraqis were recce forces cause they didn't engage!

The big Bleeped text seems to have been heliborne assaults with about 40 choppers written off in a various accidents.

You are talking very sandy conditions which results in "brown out" conditions. It's easy to crash a helo in such conditions.

Perhaps the most interesting engagement was the shipborne assault on Kuwaiti navy installations by the badly regarded Iraqi navy. Despite being small and lacking serviceable equipment they did quite well in the assault.

Good scenario material for something like Force on Force.

Cloud Captain, that would indeed be the battle, thanks for that info!
