I have been buying a lot of resin terrain over the years and have found a way, I think, to clean it before priming. I use the dish washer! I throw it in and put it one cycles that don't get things too hot (no sterilizing, not pots and pans)

This seems to work pretty well. Its really quick if i have a lot of parts and doesn't require some of the more scary cleaners.

Thoughts?

As long as it doesn't melt or warp the resin, that's an excellent idea. I've done this with plastic figure sprues, but never with resin.

Soft old toothbrush and liguid soap in warm water. Works great.

Dish soap and dishwasher detergent are entirely different. Detergent is high pH, soap near nuetral. That's why it's working well in the dishwasher.

I use the dishwasher all the time for that stuff. Just use the fastest and lowest setting and upper shelf so nothing gets too much heat. Air dry on a towel outside the dishwasher.

Since I am the dishwasher I use warm water, washing up liquid and an old soft scrubbing brush.

Just bought my first resin buildings, so after washing do they need to be primed? If so with what should I prime them?

45thdiv04 Sep 2017 2:59 a.m. PST

Yes, I prime my building with the same primer I use for figures. I tend to prime buildings in black or gray. Then I paing from darkest colors to the lighter highlights.

I use Rustoleum primer. I use it on figures, models and terrain. The major final color determines what shade of primer I'll use. I also really like spray cans of vehicle camouflage paint. The Khaki paint is great for terrain.
