"War was a common pastime in the middle ages. Nations battled nations, cities battled cities, and villages battled villages. It is no wonder that it is the period that generated some of the greatest soldiers and military units in history. This is a list of the best of the best – the 12 most impressive soldiers of the middle ages…" Main page link Amicalement Armand

This is clickbait. It's a lot like comparing cranberries to nuclear warheads with no historical or contextual value. Even if they did rate longbows at #1. |

Do not waste your time going there. I did and regret it… |

Picky, picky, picky. It's a generalization page, not a scholarly treatise. My list, first to last – first being the most impressive medieval (European) troops: English Longbow during the last half of the HYW. Swiss phalanx. Templars, Hospitallers and Teutonic Knights. Housecarls. The Normans. French (Frank) heavy cavalry in a charge. Italian city state militia. Low Countries city state militia. Scotts schiltrons attacking. Galloglaich. Genoese crossbow. |

Yes, definitely add them to my list. Put them between Normans and Housecarls. |
