Okay so I'm starting to pull together a different take of Stargate, SG-1 did a take on the Egyptians, Stargate Atlantis did their take on Atlantis and The Ancient Ones.

So I'm sure you have guessed by now by my question, my take is going to be on the Aztecs in the Pleiades system.

I have most of the Stargate figures in the 15mm range, I figured it would be great fun building Aztec temples and jungle worlds, in addition great fun playing and gaming it out.

I just need some Aztec figures.

Cacique Caribe24 Aug 2017 8:27 p.m. PST

Doug,

I didn't know they had an Aztec people in the SG tv franchises. Then again, I think I only watched the pilot and two or three other episodes of Atlantis.

So, how did they make them look exactly? Are you necessarily looking for figures with a lot of feather headdresses, feather capes, feather kilts, feather everything? Or are you going after a more liberal interpretation of futuristic "Aztecs"?

Also, are you looking to make very generic stepped pyramids or are you really going more for the authentic Aztec types?

Dan
PS. Seeing how many feathers those tribes used in their outfits, I'm really surprised there were any live birds left at all by the time the Spaniards got to Mesoamerica.

Feathers are fine they could be a different take of scale armor, I figure with some green stuff I might have to make some small changes.

Jaguar headed and Caiman headed figures would be really cool

I figured that I could do a different take on it like the Jaffa Egyptian Armor.

With a different branch of the Goa'uld, huh?

Cacique Caribe24 Aug 2017 8:49 p.m. PST

In that case, why not buy a box of old Revell Aztecs and raid the sprues for their heads, standards, shields and such?

And then use those bits to graft parts on to some of your favorite 15mm figures, for a truly unique look.

Aren't those 1/72 scale and would seem a little too big for 15mm?

War Monkey24 Aug 2017 9:11 p.m. PST

I plan to make the step style pyramids, I need to go to a Bead Store for findings and fobs, for decorating the pyramids and other structures.

The feathered heads, banners, shields, etc, could be used to add on to your metal 15mm figures. Unlike bodies of 15mm figures, the bodies of 1/72 figures are proportioned correctly, which means the body can't be salvaged for 15mm use.

So open up a box of otherwise healthy 1/72 Aztec figures and go "head hunting" with a sharp hobby knife or sprue cutter. I promise you the carnage you leave behind will feel almost therapeutic. :)

Dan
PS. Look at the size of the head on the purple 1/72 figure and compare that to the 15mm on the far right:

You can also look at the head on the red 1/72 figure on the left of all these pictures and compare it to the ones on the SLM 15mm figures next to it:

Yeah I see your point, this is very do able.

The cardboard terrain I'm building is going to work well for this project as well.

War Monkey24 Aug 2017 10:24 p.m. PST

Our heroes could find themselves in a modern abandoned Aztec city

Plus let's say that each warrior sect of Aztecs, Eagles, Jaguars, Caimans could all be lead by a different Goa'uld social order, much like SG-1

hand swords and pole arms are energy weapons and the shield they carry can protect them from other energy weapons and projectile weapons.

Essex miniatures do a nice looking range of 15mm Aztecs

Moonbeast25 Aug 2017 11:26 a.m. PST

There was an episode that had Daniel and the team excavating the ruins of Tel Chak the Mayan god of rain, so I'm sure there were other Goa'uld who impersonated the various gods of the Mezo-American cultures.

Cacique Caribe25 Aug 2017 1:37 p.m. PST

Hmm, ok. Maya then:

Dan
PS. Or just use them as is, and say they are 8-foot tall (Nephilim-like) humanoids. :)

Thanks for the tip of Essex miniature will check them out.

That's a great idea there Dan a tall race of humanoids! I'll have to look into that as well, think of it not only are you in a fight with an enemy with powerful weapons but they themselves are stronger and your weapon may not be as deadly as you would hope and they are wearing armor!

Thanks for the tip on SG -1, just start reaching the whole series on disk, I don't remember that episode, so looking forward to it.

The Jaffa are generally large to begin with. Add the armor and 1/72 should be pretty close.

Thanks for the ideas guys, I need to get some different Goa'uld leaders and troops.

I do seem to remember that someone makes Jaffa in 20mm. I don't remember who though. Might be something there, but then these would be much bigger than 15mm

The Beast Rampant25 Aug 2017 7:31 p.m. PST

I'm a big fan of Essex, but dislike their Aztecs. I went with Black Hat.

War Monkey26 Aug 2017 11:01 a.m. PST

I have come up with a whole new plan!

Scratch Aztec Warriors, for the most part for now.

My new plan is…..

To use GZG'S Kra'vak! With QRF'S Skull Hunters in their Sci-fi range, plus he whom we will not mention Huntarr Aliens and Vacationing Aliens range and use them in a cast society system.

Sort of like SG -1 meets Predator!!!!

I have again most of the figures for this I only need to get a few of them then, I can still do all the terrain builds, plus doing this project, I can use more of the figures that I currently have.

The main idea in the beginning was to come up with a plan and a project that would allow me to use more of the figures that I currently have and i figured a Stargate project would do that, I have a lot of alien figures that I can rotate in and out of the game and knock some of the dust off of others.

I have the D20 RPG Rules for SG -1, though I think the Pulp Alley Rules would work better for this, the SG -1 Rules would help with some of the gaps that may come along.

Thank you all for your input and ideas, I want to keep this thread alive and Post more ideas and thoughts and progress.

Doug

I really like that new idea now! The Yautja did have buildings that looked like pyramids back on their hot steamy homeworld.

I used Essex Meso-Americans for my Conquistador army, with a few bits and pieces added from some other makers and am very pleased with them. You can see them here

Nice work and paint!

Thanks for the tip.

Gunner Dunbar22 Jun 2018 2:04 a.m. PST

On the question of 1/72 heads on 15mm bodies, I have used 1/72 storm trooper heads on 15mm bodies to make very passable 15mm storm troopers, so there's every chance it may work, link to pics below

I'm rethinking some of this and will most likely go with regular Mayan and Aztec figures and add to them with green stuff or just leave them alone.

This is also added to my big list too!

Zephyr124 Jun 2018 2:57 p.m. PST

You may want to look into the old Minifigs 15mm Aztec range. They had lots of detail & lots of variety. You may not even need to make weapon swaps, just paint their weapons silver to make them look 'sci-fi'… ;-)

War Monkey25 Jun 2018 9:42 a.m. PST

Thanks for the thought for painting the weapons silver in color. I may add a little green stuff and wire to trick them out a little more.
