I just binge watched a few seasons of Homeland.
Then I saw the trailer for Death of Stalin.

Had I won yesterday's PowerBall (it helps if you buy a ticket), I would have spent a bunch on that money pit known as Hollywood. First job is to secure film rights. Then casting.

Rupert Friend is tall dark and handsome and can do moustache. He won't have to fake a British accent and can do comic. Also serious.

Hey! Where did all my money go?

Good choice. I always thought Rik Mayal would have made a good Flashman (he was Lord Flashheart twice after all) but sadly he is no longer with us. Rupert Friend would do well. He can certainly carry a period uniform (witness 'Young Victoria). A big budget TV series would be excellent.

I think he's too slight in build. Flashy is after all, the heaviest Light Cavalryman in the British Army, and has a bluff appearance. A very much younger Connery with an English accent would have been my pick, but I am really not up to date on current luvvies. Hugh Jackman might have worked, but he's a bit old now.

Can he fence?

In Silverado, John Cleese WAS Flashman as sherif. "My jurisdiction ends here."
Now, I would make him Flashman in the Boxer Rebellion.

Apparently Ridley Scott has a Flashman project "in development".

He certainly knows how to dress up hussars.
Maybe he can throw me a Hollywood Dollar for casting Friend.

Hollywood is so politically correct it's hard to imagine that they'd touch Flashman, and if they did they'd likely completely change the character.
