One thing you can say about Spartan, they have some truly amazing and clever sculptors coming up with designs for their forces. These are fantastic-looking and do tempt me a lot – if only I wasn't so short of cash at present. And waiting on my KS from them :) |

They just announced their closure, so these are just a dream for now. |

All up in smoke unless someone else buys the rights. Could happen. Look what happened to All Quiet on the Martian Front. |

And some casting of existing models has now resumed. Wayland carries them. |

Yay! I never really liked the 2nd edition rules, but we played a game using 1st edition recently and it was fun again! |

How would you summarize the differences? |

Urk, it's been so long since I read the 2nd Edition rules (I only played them once) that I don't really remember much except that 2nd Edition seemed a LOT more complicated. |

FWIW, I find the 2e book better arranged than some rulebooks, but still a typical Spartan hot mess. Quite often the impression of complexity arises because you have no idea that other parts of the book apply to your situation. I'm not sure if the new owners have any clue when it comes to clearly presented rules, but since that perception and the talent to fix it are pretty rare, I'm not leaning optimistic currently. Active beta testing should start soon, which will hopefully give us an idea if they know what they are doing. |
