Way too good-looking a planet to be a bug planet. They must have only recently moved there and started work on destroying the surface.

pfft, you say "destroying", they say "renovating". They're just getting rid of that nasty green stuff. Terrain, marines, all green, all gone.

Stryderg makes a good point. To paraphrase the Martians, "we had a perfectly good, dry, sunny, dustball. Then those people from the third planet moved here, and they started making clouds and rain and running water and the next thing you know, there are these nasty, dirty, green, living organisms all over!"
