A few months ago, I bought a collection of Vampire Counts from someone on TMP. Sadly I forget who. Anyway, it was a nice collection of old figures. I bought it on a whim, because I can't turn down a good deal.

About a month ago I decided to paint up a single unit of the VC. I went through the collection and came up with 20 plastic skeletons. I never really looked at them back then as I was strictly a Empire player. As I sorted through them I really started to like them. They have a lot of character. They were already assembled but needed some minor repaits. Here's some pics I took along the way.

Basing consists of Lead Weights for stability, Sheet Metal for Magnetic movement trays and storage. Gel Medium with sand for a nice texture. Yeah, I go overboard.

Spray paint Army Painter leather brown.

GW Bone color(whatever name they are using this month) and highlight with a little white.

Picking out small details. All metal gets a "rust" stipple of red-brown.

Grassed and flocked

The movement tray had 25 spots. I had 20 figures so I put gravestones on 5 extra slotta bases.

Little diorama I threw together.

I liked painted the skeletons so much I bought some more off ebay. A new unopened box! And Zombies too!

Next up Dire Wolves.

Nice.
Renedra do a useful set of gravestones make great fillers in an undead unit.

Nice! Looks absolutely fantastic! Makes me want to start an undead army, one of the few factions that I haven't yet done for Warhammer.

Are those Battle Masters wolves in the background of your picture? If so what did you use for bases?

Xintao22 Aug 2017 4:40 a.m. PST

Davbenback, yes those are Battlemaster wolves. They will be Dire Wolves for my Vampire Counts army. Post up shortly.

Thanks for the comments.

Sorry davbenbak, I used Warhammer Cavalry bases. 25mm by 50mm.

Great job! I have to admit that the split to Vampire Counts left me cold (I still happily play from the Undead army book!), but these models look great. Were they 5th or 6th edition?

Achtung Minen – these are from (very) late 5th Edition; in the range of Plastic Regiment boxes that started with the Chaos Warriors, then moved into Empire Halberdiers/Swordsmen. They were ace. 20 figures for a tenner at first. I bought a fair few of the Empire boxes and LOTS of the Sketelon ones for my Vampire Counts army.
