I remember seeing a novel that had a 'flashman type' American naval officer during the Spanish American War.
Any ideas?

You might be thinking of the Fenwick Travers series by Raymond Saunders, albeit I think Travers was army not navy. See link

The Travers series touched lightly on the Spanish American war and then went to China. The second book was set in Moro war and the last was about the Panama Canal. It sounded like there were plans to take the books thru WWII. I've read the first two books and one day will read the third. There has not been a Flashman book that didn't get right to the top of the reading list as soon as it t was published.

Saunders is not that good a writer or researcher.

If ,as I feel, the Flashman series is a 10 (the best) then Travers would be 4.
