In the wake of my "Bookies are taking bets on THIS???" thread, I move on.
This contains SPOILERS up to last Sunday's Season 7 Ep 5.
I am well aware of Ep 6 having been leaked, but have tried to stay away from it.
I have always been uneasy with prophecies etc on GoT. For one thing, it seems to take away Free Will on the part of the characters. Who will Jon Snow kill as Nissa Nissa? That kind of thing.
So right off the bat, I want to throw under the bus at least one prophecy.
That is Maggy the Frog, the witch fortune teller.
She tells Cersei that she will have 3 children, who will die blah blah blah.
Funny thing. Cersei has had 4. She tells Catelyn of a dark haired son of Robert who died right after birth in the second episode of season 1.
Maggy SEEMS to say that Robert will have 20 children, while she will have but 3. Plainly wrong, unless Cersei is lying. Well, that is not unlikely.
What if… What if Gendry is that son? The Books tell of babies switched at birth, notably Aegon son of Rhaegar. (I don't believe that, by the way, and apparently D&D of HBO don't either.) Why not Gendry being her first son, and a sickly child being put in his place?
Who gets Gendry out of harm's way when Joffrey sends Janos Slynt out to slay Robert's bastards? That always puzzled me too. Varys? Pycelle? Murray the Cop? Barristan Selmy? Jaime?
Anyway, as soon as Gendry and Jon meet, they become Bro. Best buddies. "Hey! I'm a bastard too!" "And you're a tough looking bastard!" Just like Ned and Robert became Best Buddies.
Anyway…. again….
Suppose Gendry is Azor Ahai, and reforges Lightbringer, or whatever it's called. All those blacksmith lessons!
Nissa Nissa? Arya? Danaerys?
What did Cat and Uncle Renly agree on just before he was killed? That Robb could style himself King in the North, but with fealty to Renly. "The usual words."
Again supposing. What if there is some files in Pycelle's or Varys' office that can prove Gendry Rivers is really Gendry Baratheon?
And Jon Snow is Jahaaerys Targaryean?
We then have the son of the last Baratheon king, the grandson and daughter of the last Targaryean king?
AND THEY ARE ALL GOOD GUYS!
Shakespeare's Henry IV Part 1 and 2 are all about the Usurper and his woes. Yet his son Henry V has none of that usurper business in it. He's legitimate and mighty.
Just thought I would throw that in.
Of course, my theory goes up in flames on tonight's episode if Gendry buys the smithy and becomes another badass ice zombie.
