…hits Las Ramblas crowds. "Police confirm fatalities and say suspect has been identified, after incident in Spanish city that is being treated as terror attack. Islamic State claimed responsibility for the attack, which took place on Thursday afternoon when a large white Fiat van veered off the road at the top of La Rambla into a crowd of unsuspecting people. Within an hour, Spanish police confirmed they were treating it as a terrorist attack. Later on Thursday evening, police said two suspected attackers had been arrested. A Catalan police official was quoted by Reuters as saying one of the arrested men was Moroccan and the other was from Melilla, a Spanish enclave in north Africa, and that neither of them was the driver of the van used in the attack. Police officials have suggested there could be a connection between the Barcelona attack and two explosions earlier in the day in a house in Alcanar, a small town in Tarragona about 100km south of Barcelona, in which one person died and 16 people were injured, including police and firefighters who were investigating the first explosion and were hit by a second blast. The explosions had initially been reported as gas explosions…"

The situation still remains fluid, with Spanish police having foiled a second potential attack some distance from Barcelona. Five men, wearing what now appear to have been fake suicide vests, have been killed by the police. In the meantime the driver of the van that drove down La Rambla still appears to be on the run, |

The terrs in Cambrils managed to wound several people before being killed by the Police. One of the wounded, a woman, has just been pronounced dead. |

More information on the attack in Cambrils: It was a single agent, a policewoman officer, who shot and killed four of the five terrorists in Cambrils, while protecting to another wounded officer. She deserves a medal for her bravery and cool head in such a dangerous situation. |

Not high jacking this thread but there has been a (most likely) terrorist attack in Turku, Finland. Apparantly three perps yelling "Allah Akbar" has been running around stabbing people. 1 is dead, 7 more wounded. One perp has been shot in the leg and arrested. |

The attack in Finland is now classified as a terrorist attack. The perp is an 18 yr old Moroccan man. Seems like only one perp not three. Two dead and eight wounded. One of the dead is a woman who was out with her 6 month old baby. The baby was also apparently injured as the man stabbed both… Finnish police responded within in minutes and shot him in the leg/s. As he lay on the ground he was arrested. My hat off to the Finnish police for their quick and excellent response. As for shooting in the legs, the responding officer seems to be like a good shot with huge amounts of professionalism. I would have opted for the safer option and aimed center mass and maybe fired more rounds… Oh well, 20 ys in prison for double murder might teach him a lesson, or not. |
