The Navy will re-designate its first Expeditionary Landing Base ship a warship this week, converting the Military Sealift Command ship USNS Lewis B. Puller (T-ESB-3) into USS Lewis B. Puller (ESB-3) so it can better meet operational needs abroad, USNI News has learned…

Interesting. There is a story about Gen'l Puller,
perhaps just that (a story) that when he saw his first
flame-thrower, he asked where the bayonet fitted…

Puller was one of two men to receive FIVE Navy Crosses,
AND an Army Distinguished Service Cross (equivalent to
a sixth Navy Cross), along with the Silver Star medal,
two Legions of Merit (one with Combat 'V'), Bronze
Star (with Combat 'V') and many other awards.
