How would you rate the wargaming scene in Wales? On a scale of 10 (awesome) to 1 (desperate). |
leidang | 16 Aug 2017 12:54 p.m. PST |
I'll give it a 1 for being too far away from me. |

Wargaming in whales is hard without lights. And the minis fall over all the time. I'll get my coat. |

I'd say 7, it's not Nottingham after all, but my old local club and show seem to be doing well when I pop in once in a blue moon. |

And I sometimes get accused of suggesting random questions…… I don't think I've ever wargamed in Wales. |

I did a lot of that at university but can't comment on the current scene… |

More seriously than my last post, I listen to the Meeples and Miniatures podcast and based on his nickname, I'm presuming Mike Hobbs is in Wales and his gaming scene sounds pretty active/awesome. |

I visited Firestorm Games in Cardiff while on hols and they have a massive table gaming area available for use and a reasonably comprehensive stock in the shop part of the store. Nice and close to central Cardiff, the train and plenty of parking. |

While I like war games, I don't care for war gaming in me. |

10!!!!!!! Wargaming is alive and kicking in South & West Wales. Pembroke Dock club(WASP) now in its 37th year. Haverfordwest club now going for approx 15 years. Carmarthen Old Guard club (The new kid on the block) has gone from two members to 18+ members in 2 1/2 years. There is also a Fantasy/Sc-FI club in Carmarthen. There's a club in Gowerton, Swansea, Bridgend, Merthyr, Penarth/Cardiff and Newport that I know about. I also know guys in Cowbridge/Brecon/Lampeter that game regularly but do not belong to a club. We also have Crusade Wargames show every January and Dragon Daze in September. Firestorms Games and Rules of Play gaming shops in Cardiff, and Gamers Emporium in Swansea. There are also a couple of designers and Figure companies based in South Wales. |

Thanks for the reports that wargaming is thriving in Wales. Maybe it's time for me to re-trace the footsteps of my distant ancestor, Evan Williams, who left that fair country in 1853 for America, and come back to Cymru. |
Oudinot | 01 Sep 2017 5:32 p.m. PST |
What part of Wales did Evan Williams live? |
DWilliams | 03 Sep 2017 1:58 p.m. PST |
He was from Brecfa, Carmarthenshire. It's a tiny farm hamlet. Doubt if there are any wargamers there … maybe that's why he left! |
