My first attempt at a thatched roof. It was a disaster. I don't think I will use that material again. Even painted it doesn't look like thatch. Oh well. There are lots of articles and videos out there on the subject. I will try this again sometime.

Methinks you sell yourself short.
Does it look like typical thatch? No.
Does it look bloody fantastic? YES!

Thatch is a nightmare to get looking good! I suggest using the system in 4Ground buildings…
Get some teddy bear fur with a pile about 1-2cms, and cut sections so they slightly overlap (.5cm – 1cm) the area of the roof. The pile should be pointing downwards.
Get some PVA wood glue and mix it 50/50 in a container with water, then brush it down the line of the pile. I used a plastic comb to make it look better too!
When dry it looks fantastic!
You will need one strip of fur on each side of the roof, and a 1-2 cm wide strip to cover the join. Alternately, make one of the sides longer so it extends over the join.

Watch out for the excess glue dripping off the drying roof though, it will stick to paper etc.
I tend to support the roof underneath with a cup or pot and let the roof drip onto the paper below.

I hope this helps…

It does thank you. I do have a 4 Ground longhouse that comes with the fur. I will try that next.

I think you could salvage the building by adding flock to the roof. Then it would be mossy overgrown. Really though, its not bad and would be welcome on my game table.
