Well until recently battles in GoT have been fairly historical (of course no dragons in history). Seemed more to be sieges and with a lot of action from heroes (but perhaps they just get more camera time).
I noticed that battles seem to be more wild free for alls rather than battle lines (battle of the Bastards was an exception to this). I thought that the TV series Last Kingdom did shield wall nicely (although I was not convinced multiple levels of shields).
