Hello All

Who does the Trojan Horse for 25/30mm figures?

Thank you

bogdanwaz14 Aug 2017 4:39 a.m. PST

I've used this cardboard puzzle for a Roman "sci-fi" game a few years ago.

Here's some pictures of it on the table:

And only 10 bucks! Brilliant!

Very funny and it looks beautiful, it's made of cardboard, it's solid?

But the windows and the staircase is the death assured for Ulysses and his soldiers.

There is nothing in another matter ?

Or print this Castleforte one out on cardstock a couple of times, and then glue them together in layers for a more 3-D look:

Remember, the horse would have had to fit through the gates, so it couldn't have been that big or carried that many men. :)

Super funny and not expensive, but it's not yet what I'm looking for.

Redoubt

Paskal Supporting Member of TMP26 Aug 2017 11:36 p.m. PST

??? There is no Trojan horse with Redoubt …

Come In Nighthawk27 Aug 2017 5:12 a.m. PST

Personally, Homer's tale about the horse is allegorical. The "horse" was a protected battering ram. Some weekend this autumn I plan to model the late Peter Connelly's interpretation of it.

Paskal Supporting Member of TMP27 Aug 2017 8:47 a.m. PST

It is possible, even almost certain, but it takes a little fun, also a horse in Offrance for Poseidon, why not?

Bowman29 Aug 2017 5:42 p.m. PST

Yep, the horse is an avatar for Poseidon. He is also the god of earthquakes. Earthquakes sounded like a herd of underground horses stampeding to the Mycenaeans. And perhaps the battering ram may have been given the name "horse" for its "earthquake-like" effect on armoured gates. Otherwise, "ram" is actually a better metaphor.

Troy VI and Troy VIIa are the most likely candidates for Homer's story. The latter seemed to have been destroyed by war, but the bigger former city was destroyed by an earthquake. Homer's story is likely a conflation of the two city's fates.

That's not as much fun to wargame however. My preference is for the first foam puzzle model. But it's not my game.wink

Yes Bowman, but for the decorum, it is absolutely necessary that I find myself a Trojan horse as it is traditionally represented …

Scarab Miniatures Ltd30 Aug 2017 2:21 p.m. PST

Grand Manner made a Trojan Horse in 28mm size.

Redoubt used to sell it with figures to go inside

So drop either company a note and see what response you get

Its a fantastic model (and figures) and mine has seen action on more than one occasion

Kind regards

I do not see it on the redoubt site ???

Scarab Miniatures Ltd02 Sep 2017 8:36 a.m. PST

Perhaps they no longer stock it. Worth asking if they can sell you the crew though – nice models

You could email Grand Manner and ask if they can sell the horse

cheers

Ref. "Redoubt used to sell… [a Trojan Horse] with figures to go inside." Not disputing that. I had not "discovered" Redoubt Enterprises (nor was I interested in "Ancients" much beyond Imperial to Mid-Imperial Rome) until about 10 years ago. So I have no recollection of Grandmanner selling a "Trojan Horse," or of Redoubt-made associated figures.

That said, I have bought figures from Redoubt "lately." Picked up some animals, some French & Indian War figures, and Trojan War figures, incl. a couple of their Trojan War resin ships (that sub-category being in my mind the place from which -- the "folder" or "tab" -- that if I were Redoubt, I'd be selling a resin "horse" and "crew"). I don't see any Trojan War figures on Redoubt's website "today" that look like they'd be the "residue" of such a joint project between them and Grandmanner?

Paskal Supporting Member of TMP05 Sep 2017 11:28 p.m. PST

Neither Redoubt nor Grandmanner sells it "today" … No one sells it now?

Paskal Supporting Member of TMP16 Sep 2017 11:29 p.m. PST

If anyone knows where to find the Redoubt Trojan horse in picture on the GrandManner site, let me know via a personal message, thank you.

Henry Martini17 Sep 2017 3:01 p.m. PST

Why would a protected battering ram be willingly admitted to a besieged city?

Dervel Fezian18 Sep 2017 9:23 a.m. PST

LOD Enterprises is realizing a Foam one for their toy soldier line this fall…

It is 15" tall, I believe the retail price is $105. USD

Come In Nighthawk18 Sep 2017 4:30 p.m. PST

@ Henry -- it would not. The "theory" is that at least 300, if not 500 years after the events, the "story" had gotten corrupted. The brilliant idea of a manned-ram under shelter slowly amplfied into the guile of Odysseus hiding men in "gift to Poseidon." There is the alternative of the horse is only a metaphor for an earthquake -- Poseidon being the god of quakes.

Paskal Supporting Member of TMP20 Sep 2017 9:16 a.m. PST

The Mycenaeans do not use other siege tactics than the blockade …

In my opinion the war machines appear later …

In order to get the horse into Troy, the Trojans destroyed a section of their wall, for the Achaeans had made a horse far too large to penetrate through the gates of the city.

Come In Nighthawk23 Sep 2017 7:20 a.m. PST

Has anyone ever bought the GrandManner Trojan Horse -- that is to say, anyone who is still on this forum????? Maybe they would be kind enough to post a foto of their copy of the model? Please?

I did a Google search for "GrandManner Trojan Horse," and I got a "hit." But when I opened the link -- which took me to the GrandManner web page -- all I saw was a notice that the image was not available (or not found). Help??

Paskal Supporting Member of TMP23 Sep 2017 8:31 a.m. PST

Anyway Come In Nighthawk the Trojan horse of Redoubt also sold in the past by GrandManner no longer exists because the mold is dead …

WillieB26 Sep 2017 6:09 a.m. PST

Dave announced yesterday that he still had a few Trojan Horses for sale including Redoubt figures

quote The web page is now open, I will be putting together some painted models which have not been available for a while , first up Trojan Horse from our Ancient range.
