John the OFM13 Aug 2017 8:32 p.m. PST

Yes. SPOILERS! So instead of bitching about them, shut it off NOW!!!

Ahem.

Y'all gone, you whiners and complainers?

I like how Jon started accumulating his Dirty Dozen to go and … capture a White walker.
"Hi. I'm Gendry. I'm Good King Robert's bastard son and I have a warhammer."
Everyone in his band of Merry Men has a good reason to hate somebody.
What could possibly go wrong?

Tango0113 Aug 2017 9:16 p.m. PST

Not real points in the mach with this chapter… so I prefer to participate in your thread my dear friend…

"The Magnificent Seven" would have been my tittle (smile).

No battle, no fight… but still an interesting chapter…

Let's go…

- Cercei pregnant … that determines that in no way Jaime would kill her?

- When the heck Jon is going to kiss Dany ??? …

- No comment from Dany that Jon caresses his dragons without any problem? … how it have not be developed that topic a little more deeply ?.

- "The Magnificent Seven" … carried with them arms made with the product of Dragostone?

- Should Bronn take care of his back?

- About the good information Cercei has … how is it possible that "the children" work only for his side … or is there any connection with his former master … Dany has a traitor sitting next to her ?… or Cecei has…?

- Now that his father and older brother have been executed … does not that put Samwell as the new Lord of his land?

- Arya and Littlefinger … what a more interesting game … where do you put your money? … I bet Arya …

- Where is "Worm" and its troops …?

Interesting how most of the assembled adventurers have died and come back, been cured, been left for dead, or cheated death multiple times.

So next week is The Dead vs. Should've Been Dead

I think the big bombshell here was the annulment and secret marriage of Rhaegar – Jon is not a bastard!

Tango0113 Aug 2017 10:28 p.m. PST

Some outstanding dialogues …

— "Listen to me Bleeped text, until I get what I'm owed a dragon doesn't get to kill you, you don't get to kill you, only I get to kill you" – Bronn

— Only Jon Snow could be that mopey finding out that Bran and Arya are actually alive. If ever there was a time to smile and celebrate!

— "Dragons are where our partnership ends" – Bronn

— FYI: There 15,782 steps in the Citadel.

— Davos was the MVP of this episode. He was charming, quippy, and hilarious. "I thought you might still be rowing." "Nothing Bleeped texts you harder than time." "Hurry on to your favorite establishment, or you'll put a hole in your chainmail."

— Gendry's war hammer is super badass. Also are he and Jon BFFs now? Robert's Rebellion: The Next Generation.

— "Fight and die or submit and die, I know my choice. A soldier should know his." — Cersei

— "I'm sure cutting off heads is very satisfying, but it's not the way you get people to work together." – Sansa

— I loved Tormund's look of disappointment when he realized "the big woman" wasn't with them.

— Jon: "We're all on the same side"

Gendry: "How can we be?"

Jon: "We're all still breathing"

I think the big bombshell here was the annulment and secret marriage of Rhaegar – Jon is not a bastard!

Which is funny because Sam completely ignored it, since it wasn't what he was looking for. Like all true men, he ignored what the woman was saying.
It didn't click because only Bran knows that Rhaegar is Jon's Da. Wait…. We only know that Ned isn't Dad, but Lyanna is Mom.
As of now, we only SUSPECT that Rhaegar is…..
Hopefully, Sam packed Little Sam's new coloring book. It might come in handy.
I strongly suspect that Jon's true parentage won't come up until next season.

So no one is going to mention Little Finger setting up Arya?

Well, Armand mentioned it, but is there a double double cross in the works?

Earl of the North14 Aug 2017 1:30 a.m. PST

Well looks like that rumour I mentioned in the other topic was correct, still to be fully confirmed in the show of course but we will probably have a legitimate male Targarian heir…….which will of course cause turmoil, can Dany be the rightful queen if she is second in the Targarian royal line, can John remain as King of the North, Will Sansa try to usurp John once she knows he isn't Ned's son etc.

PaddySinclair14 Aug 2017 3:09 a.m. PST

Little Finger is definitely trying to drive a wedge between the two sisters, and the best way to do it is with the truth (even if the raven message in question was written under duress by Sansa – and it's so long ago now, she may have forgotten about it).

Dynaman878914 Aug 2017 4:24 a.m. PST

See, they already secretly rewrote and re-shot some of the show when they saw my post from a couple days ago!

Seven Samurai is good for the seven of them going to get a white walker. Can't think of a catchy title for them, seven men in black doesn't cut it (and doesn't describe most of them at least).

I've got a feeling this season ends on a cliffhanger – Cersei's devious trick she plans to pull not being finished till next season.

The Beast Rampant14 Aug 2017 7:17 a.m. PST

I think the big bombshell here was the annulment and secret marriage of Rhaegar – Jon is not a bastard!

Yep!

Can't Jon & Co. just walk a hundred paces beyond the Wall, stick a sword through some ne'er do well, wait for him or her wight-out, and go back?

Did they have to go looking for a "seasoned" zombie? Did the GM not tell them the "# appearing" was like, 10 d10 minimum?

And, will next week's title be "the Wight Stuff"?

The Beast Rampant14 Aug 2017 7:22 a.m. PST

While I'm working th stale AD&D references, I love how little by little over the show's seasons, the downtime for plot advancement has shortened dramatically:

Player: "OK, we all load up and march to the other end of the continent."

Season 7 GM: "OK.. (quickly makes a few dice rolls) "OK, nothing happens, nothing happens, you're there. Now what?"

Winston Smith14 Aug 2017 7:53 a.m. PST

In the "books", it took Sam 3 chapters to sail from Whiteharbor to Oldtown.
Three excruciating long chapters.

Winston Smith14 Aug 2017 7:57 a.m. PST

- Now that his father and older brother have been executed … does not that put Samwell as the new Lord of his land?

It's interesting how much vital information so many characters do not have. The Grand Maester knew but didn't have the heart to tell Sam.

Just you wait til we see Martin's version of Sam's "tome-toting/slop-slinging/chamber pot-dumping" montage. grin

Meanwhile back at Oldtown, the smartest men in the world are debating over whether they should establish an agenda to form a committee to study whether something needs to be done.

"But I can tell you what I won't do. I won't ever preside over an organization that wants to put together a working party to investigate the possibility of setting up a steering group dedicated to considering the make-up of a proposed committee….I want people who will get things done. Are you one of those people?"

From Jodi Taylor's "The Very First Thing." I love those stories.

Tango0114 Aug 2017 11:10 a.m. PST

Sam was wearing his uniform of the "Watch"… so he return to them?… if he go home… what a problem!.

100 bucs to Arya… who accepted? (smile)

Jon and Dany… like each other or not?…

Did you miss when Gilly read that the maester annulled the marriage of rhaegar and someone and performed a secret marriage to ….

That make John Snow the legitimate heir to the Iron Throne.

Winston Smith14 Aug 2017 1:45 p.m. PST

Sam didn't hear Gilly. He was too busy feeling sorry for himself and complaining about work. Men! grin Then he gave that journal to Little Sam to play with.
Sam has no idea of the significance, since as far as everyone but Bran knows (maybe Littlefinger), Ned is Jon's Dad.
It's a fact that the audience alone knows.

This is what happens when you let The Ladies learn to read. Nothing but trouble. They'll be wanting to vote and drive cars next.

Winston Smith14 Aug 2017 1:47 p.m. PST

Sam didn't use his library card, just the keys he stole from that snoring Maester.
He's a naughty boy. With a Valyrian steel sword. Good thing he's not on that expedition beyond the Wall. I don't see him running.

dwight shrute14 Aug 2017 4:48 p.m. PST

looks like a bonfire of characters next week , littlefinger brown bread and only Jon survives out of the commando raid …. harsh ……

Mithmee14 Aug 2017 7:22 p.m. PST

I think the big bombshell here was the annulment and secret marriage of Rhaegar

True, but Sam was not paying attention.

Mithmee14 Aug 2017 7:29 p.m. PST

That make John Snow the legitimate heir to the Iron Throne.

Maybe and maybe not, since all that tells us that Rhaegar might of married her.

It does not mean that he was the one to knock her up.

Earl of the North15 Aug 2017 12:08 a.m. PST

Well there is literally nothing to suggest anybody else fathered him and it actually does since the question has always been was she kidnapped and raped repeatedly as Robert and the Starks believed or was she with him by choice in a love affair as the Targaryans believed.

That he annulled his marriage (with children) to marry his new pregnant love is a pretty HUGE indication that her child was his, the whole Robert raped her theory from the other topic never made much sense.

John's real name is supposedly Aeygar Targayen (according to the earlier correct rumour).

Earl of the North15 Aug 2017 1:15 a.m. PST

I believe the spelling should be Aegar.

Also on the Robert being the father thing, this would mean that Eddard not only remained friends with a man who raped his sister, but actively supported him after her death and died trying to ensure Robert true heir succeeded him……which given of what we know about the character seems unlikely.

The leaving of the Kingsguard to guard the tower of joy makes more sense now as well since they were guarding Targaryian family members rather than Rhaegar's mistress.

Winston Smith15 Aug 2017 2:51 a.m. PST

I've read on line speculation that Jon's "true name" is Jahaerys Targaryean.

I've read in the books that Rhaegar was a silly aimless crown prince until he read something that changed his life. He became more serious, took up all kinds of training and even told Jaime that he would "do something" about Mad King Dad.
Possibly it has something to do with the Wars to Come with the Dead.
On line speculation is that Rhaegar was Fire and Lyanna Stark was Ice; Jon is then the Sing of both.

Earl of the North15 Aug 2017 4:24 a.m. PST

Rhaegar does become something of a tragic figure……dad is crazy, falls in love and ends up dying in battle because of it, children murdered, both wives dead and his remaining family has to go into exile.

Dynaman878915 Aug 2017 4:50 a.m. PST

> the whole Robert raped her theory from the other topic never made much sense
HERETIC!

Earl of the North15 Aug 2017 6:51 a.m. PST

Sorry Paul but it just didn't, it would have been a twist but I think its becoming pretty obvious that they are laying the groundwork for John coming out as a Targayrian.

Another rumour is that Bran visions are going to confirm this for us, with him able to tell us what John's mother said to Eddard before she died in fuller detail.

The Beast Rampant15 Aug 2017 6:56 a.m. PST

If Bran's confirmation sounds like his last words to Littlefinger week before last, I will have to rewind it fifteen times to be able to tell what he said.

Earl of the North15 Aug 2017 6:58 a.m. PST

Having seen the clip for next week it looks like John's party has a number of disposable 'redshirts' beyond the less than magnificent seven…..the rest of the Brotherhood and some Free Folk perhaps.

Earl of the North15 Aug 2017 7:00 a.m. PST

It supposed to be a number of rapid visions, including a more detailed look at what John's mother said beyond the 'promise me Ned' that we have had so far.

Dynaman878915 Aug 2017 8:23 a.m. PST

You will all see I am correct…

Winston Smith15 Aug 2017 8:56 a.m. PST

If Jon Snow is Robert's bastard son, why does he need to be protected from him?
According to Maggy the Frog's accurate accounting, Robert has over 20.

Dynaman878915 Aug 2017 9:05 a.m. PST

I told you before, they are rewriting and rebooting things now that I let the true secret out.

Tango0115 Aug 2017 10:46 a.m. PST

So… how can he can managed with Drogon…?.

He is a Targaryan…how Dany didn't speak a single word with Jon about it is incomprehensible…

On the other hand … watching the chapter for the third time … the faces and expressions of Dany to Jon and Sir Mormont are very rebellious … one admires him as a warrior and friend … the other … well …

Earl of the North15 Aug 2017 10:54 a.m. PST

So… how can he can managed with Drogon…?.

Well John is able to touch a dragon so that is a hint in of its self. John has no reason to think he can touch him but seemed drawn to try…..hell you only live twice.

He is a Targaryan…how Dany didn't speak a single word with Jon about it is incomprehensible…

Why would she know anything about it?

She was a child at the time this happened at a time of great stress (in the middle of a civil war), the annulment and marriage don't appear to be common knowledge even amongst the nobility since nobody (including the Dornish) mentioned the annulment.

Rhaegar (along with his first wife and kids) is killed around the same time John is born (I believe) so its likely that every noble who knows died either with Rhaeger or died defending the Tower of Joy…….except maybe Eddard Stark and he keeps it a secret.

On the other hand … watching the chapter for the third time … the faces and expressions of Dany to Jon and Sir Mormont are very rebellious … one admires him as a warrior and friend … the other … well …

I'll have to watch it again, but there is a moment where you can see Dany is unhappy that John is talking about leaving and going north of the wall. Mormont also seems to notice it.

Winston Smith15 Aug 2017 10:57 a.m. PST

"Ah, who's a nice dragon? Drogon is a nice dragon! Such a nice big HANDSOME dragon! Kitchee kitchee koo!"

That and Drogon can smell Targaryean blood. Just like Raegal and Viseryon could smell it on Tyrion.

Wait until Jon meets the dragon named after his Dad. And I do not mean there's any dragons named Ned or Robert!

Winston Smith15 Aug 2017 12:03 p.m. PST

There are so many things, facts, floating around in the show that the audience knows to be true, and that the characters are completely ignorant about.

Who on the show knows that Lyanna and Rhaegar are Jon's parents? Nobody actually. Bran's vision did NOT have Rhaegar in it at all. Now only Bran knows about Lyanna.
To Sam, "Raggar" annulling his marriage and marrying some unknown in Dorne is as meaningless as it can be.

Except that Littlefinger knows everything. evil grin

platypus01au15 Aug 2017 1:26 p.m. PST

So Daenerys is John's aunt? So it is basically Wagner?

JohnG

Winston Smith15 Aug 2017 1:52 p.m. PST

Yes.
Rhaegar was her brother.

Thomas Thomas15 Aug 2017 2:29 p.m. PST

Sam is also now the Tarley heir. Got sword now castle and affinity.

If Jon can leave the Night's Watch and become King of the North (and the remaining 6?), Sam can surely leave to be Lord Tarley. They're just guidelines you know…

I miss Dickon already but if someone's going to inherit why not Sam and Gilly (with Caster spawn as heir…)

Eight episodes till D&D version wraps up then in 2018 we get back to the real story. Till then Battle on for the Iron Throne!

TomT

Dynaman878915 Aug 2017 2:53 p.m. PST

I don't know if Sam is dying to be released from his vows quite so much as John was.

Winston Smith15 Aug 2017 2:54 p.m. PST

When Sam left the Citadel, he was wearing his Night's Watch duds.
Jon's watch was ended by his death.
Sam renounced all lands and titles. His watch is not ended.

The Beast Rampant15 Aug 2017 8:18 p.m. PST

The Tarley's should have bent the knee. Pops had already pissed away their honor, to cast in their lot with a Queen every bit as awful as The Mad King. Why did Randall figure it mattered that they switch sides again?

TYRION: "We already know what kind of bannerman you are, Randy, now we're just haggling over the price."

Eddard Stark, he was not. Oh, well, plot advancement and all that.

Winston Smith16 Aug 2017 2:30 a.m. PST

True. Tarly had already betrayed House Tyrell. As Tyrion pointed out, his honour was already flexible enough as it was. At least we won't see that sour mug again.
