Good day,
Did anyone go to Advance the Colors in Springfield Ohio last year (2016)? Curious what thoughts were and if it might be worth going this year.

Its been several years since I went seemed like attendance was down and I had invited a co-worker. He went and had a bad experience so now he wont go back.

Any feedback or thoughts appreciated.

What was his bad experience?

He tried a couple of games and said the people were not helpful or friendly and he thought they were very clicky, he wont come back. It was around 2012/2013.

79thPA did you go last year? How were the crowds?

Only thing I have seen from HMGSGL is a French and Indian war game always shows up at other cons with a banner. Individual is always selling his rules is he the new HMGSGL President?

There are several in the group who take that game on the road.

The crowd ebbs and flows, so it is not something I worry about or pay attention to. I go as work and family circumstances allow. I always enjoy myself.

Perhaps your friend got into a game in which all of the players knew each other/where gaming buddies? Things like that can happen. I often game with people at ATC who I don't know/don't game with outside of the con. I have never felt it was clicky. Again, if you are in a six player game and players 1-5 know and game with each other, you are probably going to be the odd man out.

Do they still use the room upstairs? I have hearing issues (too many years working flight line in Air Force) and I remember that being one of my issues was it was very difficult to hear conversations during a game due to the room seeming to echo. Has it gotten any better?

Only missed a few ATC cons myself over the years. They still use that second floor hall,DGT;where the main gaming is held as well as the annual HMGS/GL membership meeting on that Sunday morning. The lobby,a hallway near the dealer area, sometimes still have games going on,and they used to have the FoW tournament at the old Senior Center next door. Last year, they had that at the Courtyard By Marriott in a large party room. Not sure where this year. Planning to be there this year. And I always try to be civil and helpful when possible. Odds are,I'll possibly be at an Aerodorme table if there is one,Team Yankee likely too,I even tried to run "Wings Of War/Glory" one year as a pickup game. Only had 2 others join in but a valuable experience in GMing.

Unfortunately, the acoustics are still poor.
