any one know where to pick up some cheap plastic tripods? Would love to try my hand at War of the Worlds but the cost of All Quiet on the Martian Front tripods seems very steep. Any know of a cheaper way to go? Shapeways seemed pricey also.

I used MacDonalds Happy Meal toys. They are from a Batman series something to do with a character called Manta. Try eBay.

Mike

Wow, I remember buying a bunch of those way back when, just for that purpose!

Never saw these before.

Dan – did you actually use them for anything?

I saw an article, I believe from Forbes, about the worst toys to collect and among them were Hot Wheels and McDonalds Happy Meal toys. Although you couldn't tell that from looking at ebay.

I used the DEIMOS-9 from Monsterpocalypse

You can pick them up on Ebay from example for like six dollars US.

Found some reference to the Happy Meal toy that Mike Bunkermeister was telling us of. It is called "Black Manta Sub-Launchers" and was featured right here on TMP:

Nope. They're still in a bin somewhere, still in plastic. At this rate, I doubt I'll ever get around to doing anything with them.

Good Job DyeHard, yes, those are my Tripods, Cacique Caribe linked to them on my blog!

Looks like Dan may want to sell his…

And check out my blog where good ideas like that are posted frequently.

I had some of the tripods before AQMF came out; sent them to a lad in the UK gratis. Don't know if he ever put them to use.

Bit short for towering over 15mm tanks, but could be used for the smaller stuff, or used for larger if you don't mind the above.

As for legs to swap in, if you have some old Wild Wild West Loveless walkers…

Doug

Edit: Mind you, if I were starting, Gundog's suggestion makes HUGE sense to me! Wouldn't take much to make handsome, even a few tank hatches and the like.
